How lucky we are that the 250th anniversary of the United States of America falls in 2026. July 4th just felt different this year. Parades, fireworks, people everywhere — big cities, small towns, everyone doing their own thing. It was nice seeing folks out and actually enjoying the day.
And while all that was happening, the US Mint jumped in with special coins and medals for the anniversary. If you’re into history or collecting, it’s a fun little bonus. These pieces carry a bit of the country’s story, and it’s interesting seeing what they decided to make for such a big year.

This one is an art deco take on the Liberty Half Dollar. You can see it right away — the clean lines, the bold shapes, that forward‑moving look art deco always has. It feels modern for its time, simple but still elegant.
Liberty herself has that mix of strength and softness. The posture, the flow, the way everything sits together. It’s one of those designs where the artwork does the talking.

The eagle on the reverse keeps that same art deco attitude. Strong, a little fierce, definitely a “don’t mess with me” vibe. The wings are sharp, the stance is powerful, and it has this protective feel to it. You can tell the artist wanted it to look serious and commanding.
The sun and the rolling landscape connect the obverse to the reverse, where an eagle soars, evoking freedom.
The reverse reads “United States of America.” On the left are the initials of Andrew Sides from the Artistic Infusion Program, and on the right are the initials of Eric Custer, the sculptor and medallic artist who finished the design.

Talking about this coin reminded me why I enjoy collecting. It’s fun holding a little piece of history, especially in a year as big as the 250th. This Liberty Half Dollar medal has that mix of art deco attitude and quiet beauty that makes it stand out. One of those special pieces from the mint — definitely worth keeping around.
