(Edit: meant to post under Silver Bloggers Community. Apologies.)
Got a little hammered yesterday evening. Well, let me rewind some. Started the day off going to breakfast with my old Marine vet friend Rick. After a greasy breakfast at Waffle House we dropped some Toys for Tots collection boxes off at a few businesses. Yep, it's that time of year again.
Anyway, after dropping me at home, did a little piddling in the garage. After which took a couple hour nap. It's after this nap that things went off the rails a little. But kind of in a good way.
The beers just started going down too easy. I started loosening up my fingers and dial pad. Next thing you know I'm contacting old Marine comrades that I haven't communicated with in a long time. It really lifted my spirits.
Started reliving old times and talking about them with the wife as I texted and messaged back and forth. Even had a call with one. Then I got added to a text group of one of my old platoons and linked up with more I hadn't been in contact with in a long while. What an evening and night.
Sometimes it takes a few beers to break down those walls. The ones that keep you from reaching out. The ones that make you think too much about what to say or whether they even remember you. Turns out they do remember. And they're glad to hear from you too.
We all get busy. We all let time slip by. We tell ourselves we'll reach out later. Then later becomes years. Don't wait. Pick up the phone. Send the text. Even if it takes a little liquid courage to get you started.
Hoping to keep up the momentum. Not sure what the plan is today, but reaching out to more is part of it. While sober this time.
When's the last time you reached out to someone you'd lost touch with?
Thanks for reading,
Joe
