My family is a large one, and we’re more of girls than boys. We are five girls, and the funniest thing is that we can all wear each other’s clothes without anyone noticing, because my younger sisters have bigger bodies. But the real problem has always been between me and my elder sister, Amara.
Gosh, I don’t know why, but I just prefer wearing her clothes to mine. And the annoying part? I know she hates sharing her clothes. Still, being that stubborn brat that I am, I go ahead and wear them. When she catches me, she feels like tearing me apart, but I always run to my mummy my greatest defender who will say,
Amara leave your sister to wear your clothes don't you know you both share thesame blood
And Amara will shout back, “Doesn’t she have her own clothes? Why must it always be mine?”
If my mum should defend me well, I go ahead to wear the cloth but if she doesn't amar was make sure I remove her clothes.
I remember one incident that can never leave my memory. My mum bought two new dresses and asked my sister to choose first. Funny enough, the one she picked was exactly the one I wanted. I begged her to leave it for me since she already had so many fine clothes, but she refused. I left her alone or so she thought. But had a plan in my mind.
The day I was to return to school, I quietly packed both dresses hers and mine into my bag. That evening, Amara called. She didn’t even bother asking if I was the one who took it. She just said, “War start. Since you’ve started it, expect more from me.”
Over the phone, I pretended not to care. I even told her she couldn’t do anything. But deep down, I knew I was the one at fault and I also knew my sister always keeps her promises. But pride wouldn’t let me apologize.
The next weekend, I went home and bought myself an expensive perfume I had always dreamed to buy. I had completely forgotten Amara’s promise of “war.” Two days later while packing to return to school, I noticed my perfume was missing. I cried to my mum, who told me to calm down and promised to ask Amara.
Amara boldly confirmed she took it. When Mum asked where she kept it, she said she had given it to her friend as a birthday gift the previous day. I was so angry! When I confronted her, she just said, “First to do no dey pain, but second to do dey pain pass.”
I went back to school without the perfume because my mum refused to replace it. For a whole week, Amara and I didn’t talk we were mad at each other. Then one morning, she called and apologized for what she did. I also apologized for taking her dress. Later, she confessed that she didn’t even dash out the perfume she had only hidden it to get back at me, I was so pleased to hear that, I ended up buying her a new gown as an apology gift, even though she told me not to bother. I just wanted to make things right because I knew I started the whole feud.
Even till today, this problem hasn’t completely stopped oo. I still wear her clothes whenever I visit home. I’ve even warned her that when she gets married and I come to visit, she should be careful because if I’m going, I’ll do justice to her wardrobe. She always laughs and says, “Till then shaa.”
She has softened now sometimes, she even borrows my clothes too. So, I guess I can proudly say we’re living ever happily after, in our own funny, fashion-sharing sisterly way. 😂
Thanks!!!
