Mr Adam lives closed to my home. His home is always filled with celebrations and laughter. They are always celebrating either a milestone achieved by their children or close relatives. Looking at his home, one can easily say they have it all. He is always happy, and at his work place, he is a director who is paid handsomely. His children are already grown, and everything seems to be going perfectly fine for them. One could easily wish to be him because their living looks so comfortable.
Oneday, I was having a conversation with my mum and I said, "Mum, I wish everything is working out for us the way it is for the Adams family. Look at them, they are living very big, comfortable and large. I wish we are living like them, we won't have to worry so much on settling bills".
My mum smiled, and asked me, "What makes you think Mr. Adams has everything?".
I answered, "Look at his car, his house, they way they celebrates moments loudly, infact everything about him".
My mum smiled again, this time broadly, revealing her teeth,
"Wishing to be like Mr Adams is not bad, but are you ready to work for all the things you want?".
She continued "Mr. Adams never had it easy from beginning, There was a time when the life he is living now was merely a dream to him. It took him years of sacrifice, disappoinment, hardwork and determination to have all these.
When he newly got married, he and his wife were barely surviving. They struggled to make ends meet, but through years of continuous effort and determination, they were able to build the life they have today. So my daughter she continued, if you want to admire his success and wish to be like him, it would be better to work like him too. What you are seeing today is the result of years of hardwork".
Wow!!. After that conversation, I began to Imagine how everything must have started, perhaps life has not always been rosy for Mr. Adams as I had thought. What I am seeing is the result of his hardwork, and not the challenges he encountered while trying to build himself.
I learnt that behind every accomplishment is an untold story, people usually see the beautiful part, achievements, congratulations but only few know the real difficulties encountered while trying to reach the goal. Before wishing to be someone else, we should be willing to go through the journey that brought about the achievement.
