First Sydney bike ride in 12 months for Kids Cancer : October 7 2026
After more than 12 months got organised to get my Sydney bicycle ready to ride. The backstory is a cracked rim 12 months ago repaired straight away and the bike stayed in the garage. Not true as we did take it to Mudgee for my birthday weekend in June where it rained all weekend. Did not ride.
The work - change the pedals from SPD only to one side flat and one side SPD. Can ride with any shoes. Also put the back rack on - good for carrying stuff like shopping. Maybe fewer walks
Picked a ride that would be safe and only a little bit hilly with a walk that might offer up orchids. Not walked this track in a year but I recall there being orchids
This fire trail joins a track that goes all the way to Middle Harbour Creek and Sydney Harbour. Not walked it yet
Always a good place for epacris longiflora
Tricky photo of heath flower - something is in focus
Hakea flower
Grey spider grevillea in afternoon light
Proof the sea was once this high - over 200 metres above sea level. Must be global freezing that changed that
Mimosa flowering late
Early flannel flower
Trigger flower just opening - something in focus
Made it to the path that drops down to Gordon Creek
Lambertia formosa - a few showing
I do recall orchids on the downhill side of the track last year - got some seeded - probably sun orchids
Yellow starburst flower
Found one more orchid - photo shows leaf and seeded capsule
Dyanella flowering
View across Gordon Creek to St Ives side
Got the ride done. Also got the biggest hill in a year. There will be more. A good ride for Kids Cancer on matched donations day. Donate here https://mclnks.com/kidscancerride
Or send me some Hive or HBD with memo gccoz and I forward cash. An upvote is free - do one of those
Good news is back is a bit better after the cycling - not great but better
Bbq dinner for me. My wife cooked eggs for her
