Waxlip orchid day in Berowra Heights - spring flower day : August 18 2026

Wake to a damp morning. Chose to do a car shop-walk thing - take an umbrella. Headed out to Berowra Heights to see if there were any flying duck orchids open. They have been seen further up the coast

Lots of flowers open - wax flowers to start

Interesting fungal form - lower one is in focus

Ziera flower - not seen these before

Wattle flower

Common wedge pea - one of the larger pea flowers

Red spider grevillea

Sun orchid budding

Not warm enough to open - they like 24C

Did find the small waxlip orchids where I expected

Did get one small waxlip orchid shot in focus - was probably the hardest of the unfolding form

Found one more sun orchid budding - next visit will be open

Orchid leaf on the track back - maybe a bearded orchid - can see the flower spike emerging inside the leaf. A known spot for bearded orchids

A good walk - it did not rain. Bird life was busy. And there were orchids

Stopped at shops on the way home
