Good chance for a quiet day. Do some investing stuff. Take a loop walk down to the bush and back home via the shops. Have a friend coming to stay
Walked down to the local Blackbutt Creek track in Gordon. Great display of mushrooms at the foot of one of the gum trees. 2nd cycle for the season
Colony of trim greenhoods still going well. Helmet folding over the labellum on this one
Can just see the fork in the labellum here - pterostylis concinna
Four flowers in shot - would not normally share an out of focus shot but the shot does show the rosette of leaves which are in focus.
Side on shot
Got down low to see this labellum
One pixie caps orchid flowering just behind. Acianthus fornicatus
Promise of a mayfly orchid. A few days off being fully open
Next up is a colony of chiloglottis orchids flowering - deep burgundy calli in this one
A bit more subtle colour for the over the shoulder shot. Chiloglottis formicifera - common ant orchid
A few flowers and also showing the leaves - two leaves opposed on the ground. Flower spike is just under 2 inches tall
Step back a bit for a bigger cluster
Did find a mayfly orchid flowering fully
One of two in this spot - acianthus caudatus - labellum is a bit bigger than a matchead - sepals are more than an inch long
Next spot to check is on this rock ledge - leaves emerging for sun orchids. Last season was disappointing. This season looks more promising with a few in frame
Love the way the bush regenerates. This tree lost half in a wind storm. Been cur back and new shoots forming from the stump
Dampiera purpurea. Feels early for these bit we are enjoying a mild winter with solid rains through the autumn.
A few hypericum emerging - could be garden escapees but there were a few
Interesting mushroom flrm on a tree stump - shaping like a periwinkle
This is how they start
Budding orchid spotter time. Leaf shaped like a eucalyptus leaf - maybe a cryptostylis orchid leaf. Next clues are the colour of the stalk and/or the back of the leaf. Touch of burgundy says bonnet orchid - cryptostylis erecta
Budding greenhood. Location says small nodding greenhood. Jnown in this exact spot. Timing says nodding greenhood. Small ones are alwash 3 weeks to a month earlier. Will check next week
Native violet for my granddaughter Violette.
Walked to shops after for a few things for dinner. My wife had a building committee meeting. So I walked down to the local pub with our guest
Did cook a simple dinner - Thai fish cakes and a few things on bbq.
Quiet day ended well over 10k steps
