Got a busy day ahead with first stop a visit to my son and my two granddaughters. Enough time after clocks went forward to do shopping, pick up wine and do a ride - walk for orchids
Blue sky after the big rain yesterday. Bottlebrush flowers in my son's garden offering hugely for moths, butterflies and honeyeaters
Did artwork with Scarlett with chalk in the front driveway - she did the art and I did the small bubbles. We had played bubbles earlier.
Had a fab visit - Daddyman she calls me - very engaged today. Violette watched me all the time and let me tickle her tummy - no tears = progress
Did the shopping. Stopped at Two Figs Winery to pick upnwine on the way home with the fab views over the Shoalhaven River
Made a quick lunch and got on the bike. Simple mission - ride 5 kms and walk a track that goes to the edge of the coastal swamp. Pretty confident of finding fingers orchids
Saw this one from the bike before reaching the track - pale pink - green dorsal sepal - white calli - pink tip to column - yellow tip to labellum. All features of caladenia catenata apart from the pink
Close by was this one - a bit different - lobes are more triangular and flared outwards and there is line of yellow calli outside the white ones. Shades of quadrifaria - four lines of calli
Disappointing to find an engine block dumped in the bush. It has been tagged - this is outside the NP - council will remove in time
More of an ID challenge this one as there is no labellum nor lobes. Looks like it never developed
Looks like the first one with rounded and not flared lobes
Looks more like the second one though lobes are not as flared and no yellow calli
A flash of yellow - shape looks like a dampiera - said goodenia as soon as I saw it. It is
More twists in the caladenia ID game - this one has some red bands - a caladenia carnea hybrid. Lobes are rounded a bit and not flared
Found another with no labellum nor lobes but it has red bands
Not expecting these in the bush. They are garden escapees that have come in on garden stuff fly tipped
One growing in the middle of the track
A few closing shots gives a different view - for rows of calli and lobes flared - not catenata
Two rows of calli and lobes not flared
Back to standard form of pink catenata
Carmine bands on the dorsal sepal and rounded lobes - carnea most likely
Dark pink form - no bands - two rows of calli
And then this form with bands on dorsal sepal and lobes - closest to carnea all day
Side on shot showing the rounded lobes better
Wallaby was aiming to cross the busy road. Stopped for a photo and a chance to cross the road safely. It is a 100 kmh road. It chose to head back the way it came and to watch me
Good to get 2nd ride for Kids Cancer done - 380 kms to go. Donate here https://mclnks.com/kidscancerride
Cooked bbq for dinner and watch NRL grand final. My preferred team lost by one point
