A challenging weather day. Rained all night. Clouds hanging over the mountain. Big rain forecast in the afternoon. Best get out on the bike with a raincoat and fit in a kids Cancer Ride and an orchid walk.
Dyanella makes for the first flower of the day in Seven Mile Beach NP. I do like being able to do a short ride with no traffic to access the bush
Next up is the promise of the next cycle of orchids - hyacinth orchid budding. This one looking like a blanched asparagus
Raincoat not needed and some dappled sunlight
This hyacinth orchid has done some twists and turns to get free. I removed the blocking stick
A somewhat bedraggled fingers orchid after the big overnight rain. Form is of a caladenia catenata - colouring suggests a hybrid. Will share a few variations but not all the photos taken
More budding promise of hyacinth orchids - colouring differences suggests more than one type
Caladenia study begins - green front to the sepal. White calli on the labellum. Pink colouring suggests a hybrid. Lobes come up straightish
Red back to the upright sepal a d tinges of red bands - hybrid for sure with caladenia carnea
Butterflies making more
Dyanella in better focus and an ant visiting
Lobes flare out and are tinged purple/pink but green dorsal sepal
Native violet for my granddaughter Violette. Will see her tomorrow
More prominent carmine bands - caladenia carnea
Mini mushrooms
Lichen liking the rainy days
Soldier ant moving fast but big enough for a photo
Next variation of the caladenia - lobes are more flared. There are some like this but they have more robust bands
Lomandra is a good sign of spring
Been plagued by bogong moths on the East Coast. An endangered species but going strong this year
Echidna close to the track. It took a while before it would stick its head up
Cycled back to surf club to check markets and for beach photos - looking north to Gerroa
Looking south to Comerong Beach - no swimmers. Made my way along River Road
Shoalhaven River to the island
View across where the river mouth would be if it was open. Since they created the Berry Canal to the Crookhaven River, this mouth is only opened in big flood times
Found another echidna on the walk way. This one is used to people and just keeps foraging. No hiding
Had a quick lunch and cycled to shops before the rain
First ride for Kids Cancer - 390 kms to go
Good move as the storm was huge. No pickleball today
