Got a hot day cooking up. Saw a Facebook post about the first brittle midge orchids emerging - February is their normal month for flowering. Got in the car to visit one known spot with a plan to look for wasp orchid after - then shop.
No sign of the midge orchids in the Ku-ring Gai Wildflower Garden - a known spot. Did find a mushroom - red - seasons are changing
The cross work tells me this is a St Andrews Cross spider but the size and colour suggest something different. Shorter and stubbier - the flash of yellow got my eye.
Decided to walk St Ives Showgrounds fire trail. It has a lot of grassy areas which is great for the other midge orchids and there is a rainforest bit. I like walking here - somewhat level - little traffic noise though it has never been great for orchids
First flower is a mini flower. This one might be two thirds the width of a US penny. Makes for hard photo work especially in bright light
This one is even smaller - part of a cluster of 5 or 6 flowers on one spike - even harder to photograph
Mini flannel flower - aconitiflorus minor - maybe the size of a US penny
NSW coral heath flower - epacris pulchella
Going up in size - leptospermum squarrosum - peach-flowered tea tree. Always a haven for ants and flies after the sweet nectar. As the flowers are close together, ants work fine as pollinators. Walk down the spike to the next flower
Golden top mushroom almost up to saucer size. Also an orchid shot with bonnet orchid leaf in the foreground
Stepped back photo - a bunch of orchid leaves but not a single flower spike. No sign of seeded either

New sigange since my last visit. Have seen waratahs flowering - the flower on the notice. People do steal them. That is why I do not share locations other than broadly

Was a good tiny flower walk. Too bad there were no orchids
Was too hot and sweaty to do the shopping after the walk. Went home - showered there - walked to shops late for a few things. Was hot
We had a lovely visit form my wife's grandson - he wanted to go in the blue cark to see Ouma Mark. He dug out cars from his favourite toybbox. Chatted with me for a while
Did cook dinner through all that - spaghetti bolognese
