This week, we welcomed Jim, the founder of @ Hideous Hackers, a crypto community that seeks to share their stories on scammers and hackers (mostly from their own personal victim stories) in order to educate themselves and others from falling victim.
We start by jumping into Jim's background, and his journey from getting a social work degree 30 years ago to this path of fighting the Hideous Crypto Hackers out there. We discuss how the community gathers (weekly twitter spaces, almost like an AA confession meeting without the addiction but supporting eachother with compassion) and also how Hideous Hackers is using NFT's, comic books, raps, games and he hopes even Hollywood movies to spread the word about their work.
!!!!!BREAKING!!!!!What we didnt expect as we prepared this episode, and as we were recording it, that Jim would choose to reveal the full extent of the hack/scam that he personally experienced that led him on this path. It was shocking to us, because not only does it NEVER HAPPEN that a victim is able to track down their hacker by their own investigative sleuthing alone but as Jim further revealed off air after the show, the hacker appears to be a known figure in the 'White Hat', (the good hacker) community!!!
We are exploring with Jim how we can more fully tell this incredible story, possibly in a Squidgame 'crime thriller reveal' style series, ultimately revealing the identity of this nasty hacker who is cosplaying as one of the good ones in the hacker community by day and a scumbag thief of working people by night.
For now, enjoy the learnings, the inspiration that through community we can share, educate and fight back against these scammers and hackers and the systems that allow them to exist.
