This video is a walkthrough of Base Camp, a tool I've been building on Hive, funded through a DHF proposal that gave out Claude/AI subscriptions back in July. It's built on top of Denser (hive.blog) but designed as an SDK so any front end could plug it in.
The core idea: Base Camp is a feed of new Hive users (accounts under a year old), each shown as a "postcard" with visual cues about their activity. Rings around the profile picture show account age (green for brand new, turquoise for 90 days to half a year, gray for half a year to a year) and how active they've been on chain. This solves two problems at once. New users show up with no idea who to connect with, and existing users who want to support good new accounts have a hard time finding them by just scrolling the feed.
New users can pick interests (photography, art, writing, crypto, etc), and OGs can offer to be "guides" in those same areas. Behind the scenes the app matches them up. I called it "guide" instead of "mentor" because mentor felt too sticky.
The postcard itself packs in a ton of info: comment history, self vote percentage, who's voting for them and how much, transfer history, delegation activity, active hours, and a "sus" button where you can flag an account as a bot, sock puppet, or extractor and leave a note. The goal isn't to punish anyone, it's to surface real, legitimate new users so the community can support them, and flag likely bots or farms so curation projects like those already out there can use that data.
I spent a chunk of the video going through real accounts live, showing how you read the cues: repeated generic comments, too-perfect replies, self voting patterns, posts that read like AI (lots of em dashes, no personality, jumping straight into information dumps). Some accounts felt clearly like farming operations, others felt like real humans just being new and awkward, which is honestly the best sign.
There's also a gamified side called Puppet Patrol...with games like "Newbie or Not to Be" that shows first ever posts so you can practice spotting real versus fake, and a "Sock or Not" game that tries to find accounts farming. Another game called Bot or Not, to evaluate if the account is just AI.
Eventually I'd like to add a proof of human badge system for vetted accounts. And other badges of accounts vetted to be genuine.
I also teased another project/game called H.I.V.E.R. ... a little game that turns the last 30 minutes of chain activity into a walkable world where you can visit live posts, and with J Sons minions trying to take you out or slow you down... but that's for another video.
