Before Field Study, I thought teaching was mostly about explaining lessons, checking activities, and making sure the learners understand.
But being inside an actual classroom made me realize that there is so much more to it.
As a Field Study student, I get to observe things that I usually don’t notice as a learner. I see how a teacher manages different personalities, how she encourages quiet learners to participate, and how she stays patient even when the classroom gets a little difficult.
I also realized that not every learner learns in the same way.
Some are active and always ready to answer. Some are quiet and need a little encouragement. Others may need more time before they can understand a lesson.
And seeing these things made me appreciate teachers more.
Sometimes, we only see the part where the teacher stands in front of the class and teaches. We don’t always see the planning, patience, adjustment, and effort behind it.
Field Study is slowly changing the way I look at teaching.
I’m still learning. I’m still observing. And honestly, I’m still figuring out what kind of teacher I want to become.
But maybe that’s the point of Field Study.
Before we become teachers, we first need to learn how to see the classroom through a teacher’s eyes. 🌱
