Did you know that it wasnt untill the middle of the 1800's that the doughnut as we know them now, with "holes, and twists " were invented.
We made these this morning, with our sourdough starter.
Old fashioned doughnuts. I got this recipe from a cook book from 1760.
In my own opinion, everything that is homemade is better then ANYTHING you buy store bought
These are really honestly one of the MOST simple things to make on a homestead.
You need 5, yes only 5 ingredients to make these.
- Water.
- Flour.
- Sourdough Starter.
- Cinnamon.
- Sugar.
I kid you not.
Sounds so simple, right? It is!
All you do is add in sourdough starter with flourand water until it is at a bread dough consistency. You may substitute water for butter milk if you do choose. Roll the dough out about an inch thick abd cut to about 1 inch squares. Cover and let raise for 30 min. fry and sweeten!
