ENGLISH VERSION (click here!)

Have you ever rediscovered yourself through new talents? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me. I honestly don’t know when I started connecting so deeply with cooking, especially baking. 🧁

I was one of those women who learned how to cook 🍳 because of migration. 🥲 I literally learned the hard way because I grew up being very spoiled. People were always helping me with everything, and, well, cooking wasn’t exactly something that caught my attention.

However, I’ve always been drawn to nature 🍄‍🟫🏞️, and I know that might not seem related. But when I started experimenting in the kitchen, it was because of videos I watched of women making everything from scratch: bread 🍞, butter 🧈, milk, and all sorts of things while living in the countryside without technology. Call me cliché 😅 if you want, but I found the whole scene incredibly romantic.

The truth is, I started playing around in the kitchen, and making desserts brings me an immense sense of peace. I enjoy cooking savory dishes too, but desserts are definitely my favorite. This year, I’ve finally discovered a talent for adapting recipes and coming up with combinations I’ve been curious about my whole life.

My weakness is cookies, and I still need to perfect them. But this year, I’ve made:

🍊 Orange cake, banana cake with chocolate chips, dried fruit cake, and chocolate brownie cake.

🎂 Tres leches cake (a huge challenge, if you ask me!).

🥭 Passion fruit cake.

🫐 Blueberry and lemon cheesecake 🍋

🍪 Oreo dessert cups.

🍫 Filled chocolate bonbons (chocotejas).

🍪 Chocolate chip cookies and colorful sprinkle cookies.

And yes, so far, the one recipe I haven’t managed to get right is bread pudding cake. It looked delicious, but 🥲 it turned out awful. It tasted bitter, and I think it was because of the bread I used. I still haven’t worked up the courage to try making it again.

Yesterday, I unmolded my very first cheesecake, and you have no idea how happy my little heart felt knowing that I had actually done it! 🥹 Looking back, the recipe isn’t that difficult, but for me, it’s a real achievement because I don’t consume milk, so I barely taste condensed milk or mixtures with strong dairy flavors. I had also never used cream cheese in a recipe before, and now I feel like I could marry that cheese! 😂❤️ The cheesecake turned out so delicious.

I still need to work on presentation, and I haven’t mastered meringue yet, but I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished. 🥹 And I’m proud of how having a hobby or passion can do so much to support our mental health. ❤️‍🩹

Because the short version of my story is this: I learned to cook to heal my heart. 🫂

And every time I step into that space, that’s exactly how it feels: like a sacred, intimate place where I can feel peaceful and happy.

Sometimes, we discover new parts of ourselves in the most unexpected places. And for me, that place has been my kitchen. ❤️‍🩹🧁
