Mark has been finding it difficult to rally his friends to help him track down the wild boar wrecking havoc on his farm. It only shows up at night and going after such a wild and savage beast all alone in the dead of the night was sheer suicide.
His yams were showing signs of growing pretty well and his maize were price winning but it seems the boar is taking the harvest all to himself and if he was to get anything out of his toil this season, then the boar needs to be taken out since all acts to scare it away have all been useless.
After trying for weeks to get them together failed, he had to device a means to do it all by himself. He remembered his father's words doing his last days.
"If you want to go get something done on time son, go alone! Waiting for a crowd will only slow you down or cripple you entirely!" His father had said.
One evening, Mark took his hunting gun and put on his hunting dress. It was an old khaki shirt and trousers that had been changed from green to black as a result of having been hung for years over the fireplace. The blackened clothe will help to mask him in the dark and the smell will make it difficult for the wild boar to get wind of his scent.
When he got to his farm, he hid himself behind the clump of cassava leaves that bordered his farm from that of his neighbour's and here, he could get a good sight and shooting when the boar approaches, a couple of checks showed him the brute enters the farm from that direction.
Few hours later, a grunting sound told him the invader was coming and he placed his gun where he could get a clear shot, lucky for him the moon was up and there was sufficient light.
On and on came the grunting sound until he could see the wild boar and goodness gracious! What a giant beast it was!
Bang! Mark fired and this was followed by a series of squeals from the animal. Mark ran up to it and saw that the bullet had hit it in the neck. He reloaded his gun and placing the muzzle on the head of the boar, let off another shot. Bang!
