Ethan locked up at the sky, the rain had been falling for the past two hours and he was drenched to the skin. He had been training with a clear sky for the past two weeks and he felt his speed shooting up but today without warning, the cloud decided to let go of all the moisture it has been holding in those fluffy bodies for a fortnight and it was not sparing even a drop for later. Ethan knew he couldn't avoid missing out on training for that day and so he ran in it, oblivious of the countless drops of clear water falling rapidly like bullets shot from a million guns. He pushed on for 2 one more hour but felt his chest stiffing and he decided to end it for the day.
"I still to be two seconds early if I wish to feel the ribbon on my breast before the other runners" Ethan thought to himself as he moved to pick up his stuffs and head for the cafeteria to get a hot cup of coffee. His teeth was clattering lightly.
The race day came with a bright, clear blue-laced sky as the runners to their respective lanes. Ethan got the outermost lane and as they stood waiting for the commands, he stole at glance at Staurt, the only contestant he knew posed as a real threat to his win.
"On your marks!"
Ethan was drawn out his reverie by the shout from the gunner.
"Get set!"
The gun blast pierced his ears down to his heart as his heart made one desperate thump.
"You did well son. I'm proud of you. I believe you will get it next time. Second best is not entirely a lost." His father said while hugging him at the end of the race.
Ethan nodded slightly as he struggled to hold back a tear.
