My Very First Boxed Candy Cake

Would you like to bake a cake that is absolutely delicious, moist, easy to make and will not cost you an arm and a leg?? Then keep reading, because the below is then just for you !

About a month ago my boyfriend turned 30 and I decided to channel my inner creativity and bake him a cake !

I wanted to bake something spectacular.. something he will never forget, but also something that is easy to make and will not flop ! What a major success !!

I decided I would like to share the recipe with you, my fellow Steemians ---

I started off by baking a chocolate sheet cake:

Ingredients For the Cake
500ml water
500g butter
1/2 cup cocoa, heaped
2 tablespoon instant coffee
4 cups white sugar
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
4 eggs lightly whisked (I used a manual beater for 1 minute)
1 cup plain buttermilk
2 tsp vanilla essence

Baking the Cake:

• Preheat your oven to 180°C
• In a medium sized pot, bring the water, cocoa and butter to the boil
• Once boiling, remove from the heat. Now add the sugar, flour and salt and mix well.
• Add the whisked eggs, buttermilk, bicarbonate of soda, coffee and vanilla essence and whisk until smooth.
• Pour mixture into a square, greased baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes
• Insert a toothpick in the middle - if it comes out dry, the cake is ready !

Ingredients for the Icing
2 cups sifted icing sugar
1 cup cocoa
180ml melted butter
2/3 cup plain buttermilk

Making the icing:

• Mix the icing when the cake is done - this gives the cake some time to cool off.
• Mix all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy – (remember to use melted butter)
• Cover the entire cake with a thick layer of icing - the icing should be thick enough to hold the decorations in place.

NOW FOR THE FUN PART - DECORATING THE CAKE !!!
I used the items listed below as decorations, but the best thing about this cake is that you can choose to decorate it with whatever your heart desires !!

• 8 Kit Kat slabs (large)
• 1 pack of Oreo cookies
• 12 Ferrerro Rocherr balls
• 2 big packs of Speckled Eggs
• 1 small box of Astros
• 1 small box of Smarties
• 1 Top Deck Slab
• 2 large packs of Whispers - Cadbury of course :)
• a 2m long ribbon (colour of your choice)

There you go everyone - fun and easy, and most definitely the most delicious birthday cake I have ever eaten ! It goes without saying that my Boyfriend had a very very happy birthday !
