Greetings everyone, and welcome to my blog.
Yesterday was an early start; I had an appointment for a breast cancer screening event, which operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Even though I arrived a little before 7:00 a.m., I ended up being number 61 in line. Once I was there, what really mattered was getting my two main exams: the screening and a breast ultrasound.
After these tests, the doctor determines whether an urgent mammogram is necessary based on any concerning findings. Thankfully, my initial results were good, and the doctor scheduled my next mammogram for this same time next year—since I’ve already had two in previous years. He recommended one every two years, provided everything looks fine, just as a preventive measure.
In my case, even though the initial check-up went well, I’m always advised to have an ultrasound due to my family history of cancer. Many women in my family have suffered from—and even passed away from—cancer, including my mother; she died from Alzheimer’s, but she was a cancer survivor many years earlier.
Because of these experiences within my family and among people close to me, I remain deeply committed to supporting and promoting these awareness campaigns. Beyond that, it’s always crucial to stay informed—by reading and learning through talks and videos—and, above all, to follow preventive guidelines as best as we can.
Like every year, I feel a bit nervous before the exam, but once it’s over and I’m told everything is fine, I feel much more relaxed. After the appointment—I didn’t finish until nearly midday—I stopped by an ice cream shop where a friend of mine works and enjoyed a delicious triple-chocolate treat: ice cream, syrup, and chocolate sprinkles.
What better way to celebrate something positive and find a little emotional relief? Screening campaigns continue throughout the city. We also learned a couple of days ago that the "Pink Race" (Carrera Rosa) will take place at the end of the month—though it won’t involve the same fundraising logistics as in previous years—serving instead as a gesture of solidarity with breast cancer patients. It is a powerful way to remind those who might hinder such worthy causes that the voices of those of us who possess empathy ring out even louder through our meaningful, positive actions.
Happy Sunday, everyone, and thank you for visiting my blog.
