DIY: Mini Nutcracker

Hola amigos. Ya se acerca navidad y siempre me gusta hacer alguna decoración para esas fechas, de hecho, siempre quise un cascanueces, pero nunca he podido comprar uno ya que son realmente costosos, asi que pensé en que podía hacer mi propio cascanueces, aunque lo pensé demasiado ya que no tengo demasiados materiales, prácticamente tuve que improvisar y hacer un cascanueces rosado ya que no tenia foami rojo que es el color mas tradicional de los cascanueces jajaja. Sufrí muchísimo para hacer este cascanueces, realmente pensé que seria mas facil, pero hice lo mejor que pude, a pesar de todas las dificultades quedo bastante tierno. Por cierto, estuve a punto de renunciar en pleno proceso porque me di cuenta que no me quedaba mucho silicón caliente, pero luche por sacar hasta la ultima gota y poder terminar jaja.

Hello friends. Christmas is almost here and I always like to make some kind of decoration for those dates. In fact, I've always wanted a nutcracker, but I've never been able to buy one since they are really expensive. So I thought I could make my own nutcracker. Although I thought about it too much since I don't have many materials, I practically had to improvise and make a pink nutcracker since I didn't have red foam, which is the most traditional color for nutcrackers, haha. I suffered a lot making this nutcracker. I really thought it would be easier, but I did the best I could. Despite all the difficulties, it turned out quite cute. By the way, I was about to give up in the middle of the process because I realized I didn't have much hot glue left, but I fought to get every last drop out and be able to finish, haha.

Se ve bastante facil ¿Cierto? Para mí fue una pesadilla por no tener todos los materiales necesarios jajaja, para empezar lo ideal seria tener dos rollo de papel de baño pero yo solo tenia uno asi que tuve que improvisar el otro usando caja de cereal, la cual moldee en forma de cilindro guiándome del tubo del papel de baño, lo pegue con silicón y luego uní los dos tubos.

It looks pretty easy, right? For me, it was a nightmare because I didn't have all the necessary materials, haha. To start, the ideal would have been to have two rolls of toilet paper, but I only had one, so I had to improvise the other using a cereal box. I molded it into a cylinder using the toilet paper tube as a guide. I glued it with silicone, and then joined the two rolls together.

Busque foami rojo, pero no tenia, asi que tuve que usar un foami rosa pastel con el cual realice el traje del cascanueces, primero lo pegue por competo en uno de los tubos y luego busque foami color piel para pegar la parte del rostro y adivinen qué? Tampoco tenía, pero como aquí nunca nos rendimos, pegue el foami blanco y luego lo pinte con MARCADOR acrílico color piel, pero eso lo hice más adelante, continuemos con el tiempo presente. Luego de pegar el foami blanco tome un foami negro escarchado y forre la ultima parte del tubo que seria el sombrero, tambien cubrí la parte superior pegando el sombrero de mas foami negro y luego recortando el excedente

I looked for red foam, but I didn't have any, so I had to use a pastel pink foam with which I made the nutcracker costume, first I glued it completely to one of the tubes and then I looked for skin-colored foam to glue the face part and guess what? I didn't have any either, but since we never give up here, I glued the white foam and then I painted it with a skin-colored acrylic MARKER, but I did that later, let's continue with the present tense. After gluing the white foam, I took a black frosted foam and covered the last part of the tube that would be the hat, I also covered the top by gluing the hat with more black foam and then cutting off the excess.

Ahora que todo estaba pegado fue cuando pinte todo el rostro de color piel, mi marcador acrílico casi murió en el proceso, pero lucho hasta el final. Luego realice dos tubos esta vez mas pequeños y los forre con el foami rosa, con foami blanco forre cada extremo para marcar las mangas y los hombros me quedaron bastante irregulares, pero no había vuelta atrás, todo esto lo hice mientras exprimía mi pistola de silicón con un lápiz. Tambien pegue foami b lanco en el cuerpo para hacer la correa y tambien la parte del cuello del traje.

Now that everything was glued down, I painted the entire face in skin tones. My acrylic marker almost died in the process, but it fought until the very end. Then I made two smaller tubes and lined them with pink foam. I lined each end with white foam to mark the sleeves and shoulders. They were quite uneven, but there was no turning back. I did all of this while squeezing my glue gun with a pencil. I also glued white foam to the body to make the strap and the neck of the suit.

Para las piernas repetí el mismo proceso anterior solo que los tubos esta vez serian un poco más angostos, los pegue juntos y luego arme todo el cuerpo de mi cascanueces, sentía que faltaba algo al traje, simplemente se veía demasiado sencillo, asi que se me ocurrió aplicar pegamento blanco.

For the legs I repeated the same process as before, except the tubes would be a little narrower this time. I glued them together and then assembled the entire body of my nutcracker. I felt like the costume was missing something; it just looked too simple, so I decided to apply white glue.

Y encima del pegamento use escarcha de un color blanco perlado, no tenia demasiado asi que esta escarcha solo cubre la parte delantera del cascanueces jaja, tome mas foami blanco y le hice algunas franjas al traje, tambien hice la hebilla de la correa con escarcha plateada. Finalmente empecé a hacer el rostro para el cual use el poco foami blanco que me quedaba, por suerte estos detalles son pequeños y me alcanzo el material para hacer la nariz, cejas, ojos y bigote. Para detallar los ojos use mercadores acrílico azul y negro y después de 4 horas de sufrimiento termine mi lindo cascanueces.

And on top of the glue I used pearly white glitter, I didn't have much so this glitter only covers the front of the nutcracker haha, I took more white foam and made some stripes on the suit, I also made the belt buckle with silver glitter. Finally I started making the face for which I used the little white foam I had left, luckily these details are small and I had enough material to make the nose, eyebrows, eyes and mustache. To detail the eyes I used blue and black acrylic paints and after 4 hours of suffering I finished my cute nutcracker.

Ahora que lo pienso hubiese quedado mejor si le pegaba algunos pedazos de algodón a los lados simulando cabello, pero en ese momento no podía pensar más, literalmente pase toda la tarde haciendo esto y sinceramente quedo mejor de lo que esperaba no tenia ni una pizca de fe en mi misma jajaja. Este cascanueces lo hice mas que todo para colocarlo en la entrada de mi casa, donde pienso decorar próximamente con luces y otros detalles navideños.

Now that I think about it, it would have looked better if I glued some cotton balls to the sides to simulate hair, but at that moment, I couldn't think anymore. I literally spent the entire afternoon making this, and honestly, it turned out better than I expected. I didn't have one bit of faith in myself, haha. I made this nutcracker mainly to put it in the entrance of my house, where I plan to decorate it soon with lights and other Christmas details.
