There's is a lot of money being made around Apple products. It's like when you buy a new car or house, they figure you've spent all that money, so why not squeeze out a few more drops from you? People that have just made large purchases are hot cake for sales people.
It's like this; when you spend say £1000 on an item, you're more likely to pay more for the same accessory than if had spent £10 on the item. It's a relativism game they play with us.
This is why Apple accessories are so expensive. They reckon you're a sucker anyway and have dropped all that dosh, so you're more likely to keep being a sucker.
I got a very cheap alternative case for my iPad. The Apple official one is better, but not £50 better :)
