SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! SOUL STRANGLER

Hi

Saydie's here again for this weeks Share Your Battle Challenge featuring the Soul Strangler. This card is a range splinter belongs to the Death Element. It is one of those cards that has only one ability and you can only unlock at max level but is compensated by it's huge damage for such low mana cost.

Before we proceed with the battle, let us learn more about this card.

Soul Strangler

Before the chaos gate opened, the towered city of Darkholde was peaceful and quiet. Situated in the cold, Blackworth mountain range, it was presided over by a long-standing noble family and governed by Baron Kutziq Neculai. If the citizens knew the truth about their governor, then maybe they wouldn’t have been so loyal, but the Baron’s tastes were sated with great restraint and he truly did care for them, taking only what he must and never more than he had to. For Kutziq was a vampire, a race as ancient as the stones they’d used to build the city. A man who loved his people in many ways, including their unique flavour.

The soul strangler is a creature of nobility, of good stock and incredible wealth. They live in lavish opulence, wearing the finest attire and moving in the most sophisticated of circles, often engaging with the high born from other cities and enjoying intimate gatherings that last for days.

However, when this vampire chooses to hunt, they take on whole new guise, almost shifting their form to become more accomplished for the chase. Pointed ears extend refining their hearing and their eyes change colour affording the ability to see in the dark – their preferred time to hunt. Long fangs grow from their mouth and vicious talons sprout from their fingers. But what you can’t see in either form is the power they hold within their mind, an ability to attack at a spiritual level when they eventually find their adversary, squeezing the very life from them; a ranged attack that if not avoided, will have devastating consequences.Continue reading...

Card Review

ProsCons
Only cost 3 manaLow Hit points
2 damage at lvl 1No armor
Poison ability at Diamond leagueLow Speed

While Soul Strangler can deal huge damage to it's opponents and can be used on low mana battles, it has very low hit points and no armor which makes it an easy target for cards with Opportunity ability which allows it to attack the card with the lowest hit points so watch out for those.

On the other hand, when the Equalizer ruleset is at play, this card can be your most reliable partner for its lack of hit points has now be compensated.

Ruleset and Opponent Lineup

This is a 29 mana cap match with the Equalizer and Odd Ones Out ruleset. Under Equalizer, the hit points of every cards on both teams is equals to the card with the highest hit points then you can only choose cards with odd mana cost when odd ones out is on play. The Elements playable for this match is Fire, Earth, Life and Death. For my lineup, I choose the Death Summoner Thaddius Brood with the ability to decrease both of opponents magic and hit points by 1 while my opponent chooses the Earth Summoner Mylor Crowling which gives thorns damage to all of his cards.

  • Opponent uses Pelacor Mercenary on the 1st position. At level 3, it has 1 armor, 2 speed, 3 damage and Flying ability, giving it 25% dodge chance for 7 mana.

  • On the 2nd position, Level 1 Disintegrator also with 7 mana has 2 armor, 1 speed, 2 damage and Demoralize which reduces an opponents melee damage by 1 but since this is a melee monster, it cannot attack at 2nd position.

  • 3rd position is the level 1 1 mana neutral non- damage Chaos Agent.

  • On the 4th position, he uses the level 1 Mushroom Seer with 1 speed, 2 magic and the Silence ability which debuff's opponent's magic by 1 for 5 mana cost.

  • Then, on the 5th position, he uses the level 1 Venari Seedsmith. For 5 mana, it has 2 speed and 2 range damage with the "Scavenge" ability to gain additional hit points by each monsters who die.

  • For the final position, he places the another level 1 1 mana Mycelic Morphoid for the total of 29 mana.

My Team

My level 1 Legionnaire Alvar is a 9 mana Legendary card with 2 speed, 8 armor and 2 melee damage. It has the Void Armor which protects it from magic attacks.

Life Sapper as the 2nd position cards has the Life Leach ability so it can increase its hit points, each time it deals damage. It uses 3 mana and has 1 magic and 3 speed. It was placed as secondary tank so that it gained some hit points before Alvar dies.

My 2nd legendary card Spirit Hoarder has the Triage ability at level 1 to heal any of my damaged cards as long as was not on the first position. It has 1 speed and 1 magic for 3 mana.

Now we have the Soul Strangler at the 4th position. At level 2, it has 3 speed and 2 range also at 3 mana. This will be the the first heavy damage dealer of my line up.

Finally, I use the another level 1 legendary, Lira the Dark with 6 Speed, 2 range and with both Opportunity and Snare which targets the card with the least hit points and removes the flying ability of the monsters that it hit for 7 mana. This is the next damage dealer and it was placed last to maybe dodge in case that there are sneak. All in all, this lineup also uses up all of its 29 mana.

Battle Phase

Due to Equalizer, all of the cards has a hit points of 9, following Pelacor Mercenary but ** Thaddius' abilities comes to effect, decreasing all my opponents hit points, making it only 8 and with Mushroom Seer having only 1 magic. Since my magic cards has 1 magic to start with, Silence has no effect however, the Demoralize turns the Legionnaire Alvar's damage to 1.

Since both the Disintegrator and Mycelic Morphoid cannot attack, I have more damage but since the opponent has Mylor, I get an extra 2 damage, as Alvar attacks. That is where the armor of Alvar gets to work. Even with that additional damage, round 1 ends with me still unscathed while his Mercenary is reduced to 3. Lira's first attack also removes the flying which causes my other attacks to hit.

At Round 2, it only takes a hit from Lira and Life Sapper, now with 11 hit points due to its ability, to finally end Mercenary and inflict some damage to his Disintegrator. Alvar still persist with 2 hit points remaining.

They were finally able to took down my tank but my team was also able to finish the Disintegrator, removing the Demoralize but sinceAlvar was also out of the play, then this ability has no use watsoever.

Now, we are both left with 4 cards each but unlike my opponent with only 2 active attackers dealing only 3 damage, I still have 4 cards that deals 6 damage and with Life Leach

From here on, the opponent cannot inflict any more damage to me because at round 6, my team was able to defeat Mushroom Seer and as a range card, Seedsmith cannot attack at first position by default but it has also gained a lot of hit points because of its Scavenge causing the game to last longer. Due to Opportunity, Lira's attack instead go to Mycelic Morphoid until both has the same hit points. At round 9, Morphoid was able to attack but misses his only opportunity to deal damage. Match ended at round 10.

Did Your Strategy Work?

For this opponent, my strategy clearly works, having a tank with huge armor and a life leaching card for secondary tank while the Soul Strangler is the one dealing heavy damage to my opponent.

What will you try differently next time?

Next time, I want to use this card on Little League and Broken Armor ruleset with my opponent using a magic team. with the magic and life debuff of Thaddius, Soul Strangler will just wreak damage to my opponent.
