Hello, there!
@saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Today, one of the biggest updates to the game was implemented by bringing Brackets in Modern Format. It is an improved League cap system that will allow players to play in their chosen Brackets, which is more appropriate for the level of their card collection. The update takes quite a long time, and it even resulted in some players buying the last batch of Voucher cards in the last few remaining hours before they leave the Voucher Shop.
In this post, I want to share my first-day experience while playing Modern that now has the Bracket System implemented.
Modern Brackets Day 1 Experience
With the new Bracket system, players will have to choose between six Brackets where they want to play. Each Bracket has minimum and maximum card level requirements that will determine what cards you can use and at what level they can be played. Since I've been playing in Champion for a long time, I decided that I will also go with the Champion Bracket VI this time, where I can play max-level cards. As I'm writing this post, there are currently 175 players in Bracket VI.
But because of the card cap, I can no longer use some of the cards I have, which I feel were still good enough for Champion, particularly my Conclave Arcana Epic and Legendary rewards. It also affects some of my Conclave Arcana Extra cards and Legendary Rebellion rewards. For Conclave Arcana, I can still upgrade the cards, either through the Glint shop or the Loot Chest, without spending any money, since they were still being distributed, but it will be more difficult for Rebellion rewards since their unbinding period has already ended.
Since this is the beginning of a new ranked system, all players got their rating reset to 0, regardless of the Brackets they choose. Everyone will start at Division 9, which fell to the Wood rating, and to advance to the next Division, players will need to reach 500 rating, wherein depending on the Bracket you enter, you will receive different types of League advancement rewards, and your max Fortune entries will also increase. There is an option to select a different Bracket in case you choose the wrong Bracket, or you think that the opponent was too strong, but that will only apply if you still haven't advanced a Division, and as a caveat, your previous ratings will also be forfeited.
As I ended my battles, I managed to reach Division 8 of Bracket VI, so I was able to receive 8 Minor, 8 Major, and 2 Ultimate Chests, and the max number of Fortune Entries I can claim has increased to 3
Now, looking at my battles, I had to play 28 battles just to get out of Division 9, and out of those battles, I won 18 games. 64.29% win rate seems great, but I bet that it is just going to get lower as I climb. You still gain an additional rating increase for having a win streak, but for some reason, the team decided that losing a match in Division 9 would cost players to lose rating, which resulted in advancing Division more difficult.
When it comes to battle liquidity, I think it is very slow, given that it would take me a minute for me to bet battles sometimes, and that was given that many players have the same starting rating. When other players start to increase their rating, player liquidity will be thinner, and matchmaking will take longer. I even saw some players without finding an opponent within 30 minutes.
So far, among the 28 battles that I have played, I have played 16 battles against humans, while the remaining 12 were against bots, which is fairly balanced, but the time it takes to get a match at this early in the rating makes me quite nervous about how thin match liquidity will be in higher Divisions.
Closing
And that was my first-day experience playing in Modern Format with Brackets. Overall, I'm not really impressed with the matchmaking time, because I want to get as fast to Champion Rating. I also noticed that since the SPS reward will only be awarded per season, the option to burn SPS for Glint was no longer available, which may disappoint players who wanted to get Glint to upgrade their reward cards and Exemplars.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
