Guild Brawl in Splinterlands is a highly competitive arena where proper strategy and card combinations play a key role in winning. Recently, a very interesting battle took place between 'MIRZAIQI' of the YGG Brawlers (Nidavellir) guild and 'MODIMI' of the Landstretcher guild. The battle was fought under a mana cap of only 24 and a very risky 'Collateral Damage' ruleset. In this difficult situation, both players had to pay equal attention to their offensive strategy as well as saving the lives of their cards.
The main feature of the Collateral Damage ruleset is that it grants the 'Reckless' ability to every card on the battlefield. Under this rule, when any card successfully attacks the enemy, the allied cards next to it also suffer 1 point of True Damage. This particular situation changes the entire equation of the battlefield. Because, if you carelessly use fast or frequent attacking cards, your own team has the possibility of being destroyed by your own blows. To avoid this suicidal damage, MIRZAIQI built a team that is mainly based on high health and passive damage reflection.
The main driving force of this strategy was their summoner 'Eternal Tofu'. This neutral or dual summoner, which costs 7 mana, determines the course of the entire team from the beginning. Eternal Tofu gives each card in his team an additional 2 health or life, which is added to the 'Snare' and 'Thorns' powers. In a ruleset where there is a risk of damage from your own cards, this extra 2 health greatly increases the survivability of each card. On the other hand, due to the Thorns ability, any enemy melee attacker will also suffer damage in return.
In the first position or as the main tank, MIRZAIQI used the huge card 'Ulundin Overseer' with a cost of 11 mana. Although almost half of the mana cap was spent on this one card, its effectiveness was immense. With 12 health and 5 armor, this card stood as an invincible wall. Its main function was to repel direct enemy attacks and withstand collateral damage from the cards of his team behind. Despite its slow speed or low speed, it was able to survive in the first row for a long time due to its large health pool.
In the second position, just behind the tank, was the card 'Helmet Kharafax' with a cost of only 2 mana. This low-cost card had the 'Bloodlust' and 'Scavenger' abilities. Due to the unstable situation on the battlefield, whenever a card died, Kharafax's health increased due to the Scavenger ability. At the same time, its overall power increased further if it could defeat an enemy due to its Bloodlust ability. This low-mana card served as a very important backup for the team in prolonged battles.
In third position was the 'Halfling Refugee', which cost only 1 mana. Despite such a low mana, its health was 6, which was very suitable for withstanding collateral damage from neighboring cards. Although its 'Weary' trait or risk of becoming tired, it still played a great role in maintaining mana balance. It helped protect the middle of the team at a low cost.
In fourth or last position was the 'Caravan Guard', which cost 3 mana. The most important ability of this card was 'Triage'. This ability restored one-third of the health of the most damaged card in the backline every round. When the cards in the back were being damaged without their knowledge due to the Reckless ruleset, Caravan Guard's healing ability helped the entire team survive for a long time.
On the other hand, MODIMI formed a traditional Earth team, where cards like Xenith Monk and Imperial Sentry were used to create pressure early on. However, due to Eternal Tofur's Thorns and collateral damage, the enemy's offensive cards began to take damage on their own. In contrast, MIRZAIQI's Caravan Guard's triage ability was able to keep the cards in the backline healthy. After a long 11-round battle, this well-planned defensive strategy and excellent understanding of the cards gave MIRZAIQI a nice and well-controlled victory.
