Ramadan (Muslim fasting month) is knocking on the door. It's going to start from next month, we usually maintain a lot of preparation for this holy and special month. Not just mentally or physically but we have to do a lot of special grocery shopping and cooking preparation for this.
What I'm going to share with you today is a traditional snack that we usually add during our Ifter (afternoon breakfast time during Ramadan. I usually try to avoid deep-fried and oily food at Ifter but this one always gets me. It's tasty, crispy, and brings a spicy feeling after a long fast.
I prepared this last Friday as preparation for Ramadan. Because we usually don't make it for the whole year except Ramadan. So let's see the detailed process...
Step one
Soak one cup of lentils in the water for at least two hours.
Step two
Use a blender or mixture to mash it properly like this.
Step three
Add salt, ginger and garlic paste, cumin paste, green chili slices, turmeric powder, mixed spice powder (optional) and mix it well. Oh, don't forget to add a lot of sliced onion.
Step four
Take the mixture in your hand a make a pressed ball like the photo and fry it in preheated vegetable oil.
Step five
Flip the fillers once in a while to fry it well.
Step six
After a few minutes of frying in medium heat remove it from the pan and it's ready to serve.
You can add sauce, cucumber, or salad with it. And yeah, some soft drink would be a great combination with this hot and spicy snack.
Easy, no? It does not take much time to prepare. What we usually do is to make the mixture in large quality and put it on the fridge for a week. When we need to prepare we just add the masala/spices and the sliced onion, it saves time during Ramadan.
Try it, you will love it!
