Week through Adrian's Lenses (30 October - 5 November 2023)

Week Adrian Lenses.jpg

This is the #43rd issue of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

23 of 59 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

November Hive Town Hall with Dapp Creators and Owners

On November 1st, there was a huge Hive town hall featuring a wide palette of dapps on Hive, both officially invited and joining ad-hoc. The town hall is over 3 hours in length, and if you don't have time to listen to it entirely, I'd recommend @ifarmgirl's post, who, beside the personal view and relating the sentiment of others in real time on one of the important topics discussed, also summed up quite well what some of the participants talked about.

LeoAds Smart Contract Turned On

Also on November 1st, the smart contract for LeoAds was turned on. While this doesn't have any noticeable influence on the user experience or earnings yet, it marks the beginning of a new stage where ad revenue will first be used to buy LEO, which will then be distributed as LEO Power to stakeholders and, later (from my understand from past communication), to evergreen content creators. And... more tidbits of information.

DHF Proposals Week

SPK Network DHF Funding Proposal

A monster proposal write-up for a monster of a project. One of the main (if not the main) pillars of decentralization, censorship resistance, and innovation outside the base layer of Hive.

The proposal is upcoming and already has the necessary votes to pass the threshold, as expected.

Since we are at the SPK Network team, they also published a recording of their team meeting and a development update for 3Speak.

Clarifications on the VSC Proposal

After feedback, the team published another post to clarify the goals and deliverables of VSC for their first DHF proposal. They also explained what is the difference between the wrapped bitcoin they build and SWAP.BTC that exists on Hive-Engine (kinda like the difference between defi and cefi).

The VSC proposal is currently funded, but on the edge. So, it doesn't hurt to vote on it if you believe in this project.

Value Plan Asks for Some Q1 2024 Funds in Advance

Mainly, they are asking for the budget for the rally race in Monaco from January, which must be available before the year-end.

It's interesting, that from this post we learned that Hive also sponsors a motorcycle racing team from South America, and a biker too, who also won a race recently. I was already aware of Hive Run from Venezuela, but not from the other two.

Speaking of the rally race, the Central European Rally is over, and our team finished the race. This is probably the best thing we can hope for, given the class of the car. When they finish, it's a higher exposure for Hive, and probably less expenses associated with pushing the car to the limit. We're still waiting for the aftermovie. Probably next week.

Next month we should be expecting the annual report from Value Plan with lots of details.

Ideas to Improve Hive...

@eddiespino posted from the @aliento account proposing two ideas to improve Hive. One refers to extending the period until which full curation is rewarded to 3.5 days instead of 24 hours, currently.

The other issue raised by Eddie is that a post muted in a community is muted for all tags of the post. I didn't know that, but he said he tested that and I trust he did. That is indeed a problem.

I would say yes to both issues he raised, under these circumstances. On the curation rewards issue, I often refrain from upvoting a great post because when I discover it it's after 24 hours.

Monitor Witness Tool

@themarkymark created a tool for witnesses to monitor their backup nodes if they are behind or even failed before they are needed, to prevent a situation when you need it and you can't use it without replaying the node (which can take days or weeks).

PSX Token Whitepaper

PSX is a "web3 gaming curation reward token with integrated DeFi incentives" from the @PsyberX team. Check out the details, if you want to understand what this is all about. They also had a presale which got sold out last week.

Updates on Holozing

One of the things I like about Holozing is that, by reading Acid's posts I have a feeling of knowing the game intimately even before it launches. It keeps the story going and us engaged. Here are his posts from this week, all about the game:

PeerVerity: Blocktrades' Decentralised Social Proof Network

Blocktrades mentioned his team was going to work on such a rating system, and if you are curious to check out the website before it is officially released, @ura-soul mentioned it in his post.

Hive Cuba Has a Website

The @hivecuba community now has a website. This is the announcement post.

Life of Hive

Caracas Blockchain Week and Hive Summit and the Aftermath

There were a plethora of posts from these events, so I will be quite picky.

Hive Is Building a Bakery to Sustain a School for Special Children

I'm not sure about "special", but "space children" seems wrong and it's wrong both in English and in Spanish versions.

Anyway, looks like Value Plan funds the repairs to the building which will serve as the bakery, and probably the startup of the business (I'm thinking), and the profits of the bakery will help maintain the school.

@starkers and others visited the place after CBW.

Overview of the CBW 2023 in Retrospective

There are tons of posts about this event, but the @hiveblocks-es account made an overview of what happened at CBW this year. I thought it's much better to share that instead.

Full Conference of @danielvehe at CBW

It's the only full presentation I found from there, and I thought I should share it. @danielvehe is an accomplished speaker, with extensive experience just from what I noticed over time, and that shows in his presentation. You can also remark "his fans" at the beginning of the video, none other than his students as we found out from a different post.

Winners of the Caracas Blockchain Week and Hive Blockchain Summit Initiative

I'm not sure what were the rules of this competition, other than make a 3Speak video and be about CBW, but here are the winners (and the voting process). Some pretty nice videos these girls created! Interesting, btw, all girls...

Two Boreholes Launched at the Same Time in Ghana

During a week when at least I was flooded by content about CBW, @mcsamm and @collinz hit a historic moment in Ghana with the Hive Boreholes Project. Two boreholes launched at the same time for the same community. One built from scratch as we are used to, and another rehabilitated from an existing manual borehole that the community already had.

Week in the Crypto World

Sam Bankman-Fried Was Found Guilty

This seems to be only step one, as it appears SBF will appeal the decision, which was unanimous on all counts. Markets didn't appear to feel any impact, either way.

15 Years Since Bitcoin Whitepaper Was Made Public

On Halloween Day (a celebration I don't really like) in 2008, the bitcoin whitepaper was distributed in an email from Satoshi Nakamoto. Without that, no bitcoin, no crypto, no Hive. Probably.
