Market Friday : A visit to the mill

Hello everyone!!
Thank God is Friday!!!
We are hopping in to #marketfriday by @dswigle.

I hope you will enjoy the ride 😁.

I visited a mill where corn, beans and tomatoes is mostly grinded.
It is a household business operated in their house.
I went there to grind my corn.

I measured the corn in a custard container to know the quantity I will be soaking for two days, reason for measuring it is the grinding cost is charged from the quantity too.
After soaking the corn for two days, I washed it thoroughly and was ready to go to the mill for grinding.

The corn is measured here as well to determine how much it will cost for the grinding. Though the quantity will vary from the original measurement because of the soaking process.
A basket is $0.48 (#200), I paid $0.72 (#300) for my own because it was more than a basket but not up to 2 baskets.

After grinding I came back home to do the next procedure which is separating the starch from the chaff by washing or sieving.
Some pour the whole content in a net bag and immerse it in a clean water, and touch it gently to remove the starch.
While some tie a net sieve to a container and pour a small quantity of the content adding water little by little, turning it with the hands in a circular motion which is the method I used.

After that is done, it is kept for some minutes to allow the starch to settle well.

The chaff can also be used in preparing chicken or poultry feed.

After some minutes you gently remove the water and pour the starch in a bag to remove the remaining water. The starch has to be well conserved, it should be a solid paste.

Mine is still drying.

This can used to make pap or agidi (corn jellos).
You can come and cut yours to make a delicacy of your choice 😊.

PS : All photos are mine and are taken with my Android mobile phone.

Thanks for reading.
Have a blessed day.
