Serre-Ponçon lake

In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region of France, there is a nice artificial lake which was created to produce electricity with a hydroelectric dam. Located at an altitude of approximately 750m, it stretches over 28km².
The impoundment of this reserve required the displacement of more than a thousand people and the destruction of two villages which disappeared under the water.

It is the largest hydroelectric dam in Europe in compacted earth and not in concrete as we are used to seeing

The dam is 123m high, 600m wide and 650m thick.
