On these beautiful autumn days, I like to go hiking with my wife Geane in the Teutoburg Forest. Today we brought some leaves home to experiment with a bit. In the cover picture, Geane looks at the maple leaf and absorbs autumn.
An diesen schönen Herbsttagen gehe ich gern mit meiner Frau Geane im Teutoburger Wald wandern. Heute brachten wir ein paar Blätter mit nach Hause, um ein wenig damit zu experimentieren. Im Titelbild betrachtet Geane das Ahornblatt und nimmt den Herbst in sich auf.
Backlight Lightpainting
In the image below, I wanted the leaf to reflect on the face like in a mirror. I was able to do that right away. You can see me with black gloves. I put them on so as not to see my hands in the picture when exposing the leaves. Only the trigger for the flash in my right hand bothers me a little. Something happens all time. 😉
Im Bild unten wollte ich das Blatt im Gesicht wie in einem Spiegel reflektieren. Das ist mir auch auf Anhieb gelungen. Man sieht mich mit schwarzen Handschuhen. Die zog ich an, um beim Belichten der Blätter nicht auch meine Hände mit im Bild zu sehen. Nur der Auslöser für den Blitz in meiner rechten Hand stört mich ein wenig. Irgendwas ist ja immer. 😉
In the following selfie, I was completely immersed in the fall foliage. Geane was so kind and triggered the flash. So I had my right hand free.
Im folgenden Selfie tauchte ich komplett in das Herbstlaub ein. Geane war so nett und löste den Blitz aus. So hatte ich die rechte Hand frei.
Fractal Filter

fractal filters. So I taped a leaf to a tripod and mounted a fractal filter on another tripod using a clamp. I then illuminated the sheet with a

Wenn man das Laub schon mal im Haus hat, kann man auch sein neues Spielzeug ausprobieren. Seit einigen Wochen bin ich stolzer Besitzer eines Satzes
Fractal-Filter.
Also klebte ich ein Blatt an ein Stativ ind montierte einen Fractal-Filter auf ein weiteres Stativ mit Hilfe einer Klemme. Das Blatt beleuchtete ich dann mit einer
FLASHLIGHT “LIGHTPAINTER RYU´S LIGHTWORKS”
und Color Filters
Camera Rotation
Of course, I couldn't help but rotate the camera for the two following images. The beautiful autumn leaves are calling for it!
When I woke up this morning, I had the right lines for the pictures in my head that I would like to share here. A little autumn poetry. Didn't think I'd ever get carried away with it. The English translation is missing in this case. My knowledge is not sufficient for poetry in English. If you want, you can do the translation.
Natürlich konnte ich mir eine Kamerarotation der zwei folgenden Bilder nicht verkneifen. Das schöne Herbstlaub schreit danach!
Als ich heute früh erwachte, hatte ich die passenden Zeilen für die Bilder in meinem Kopf, die ich hier zum besten geben möchte. Ein bisschen Herbstpoesie. Hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich mich jemals dazu hinreißen lassen würde. Die Übersetzung ins englische fehlt in diesem Fall. Für Poesie in englisch reichen meine Kenntnisse nicht aus. Wer möchte, kann gern die Übersetzung vornehmen.
Herbst
Im Teuto-Wald wir wandern ganz weit oben;
die Farben des Herbstlaubs habe ich in mich aufgesogen.
Im Herbst die Bäume verlieren den Saft,
doch ein Waldspaziergang gibt mir neue Kraft.
Der Wald zeigt sein buntes Kleid.
Schau es dir an, bald ist es so weit;
da nimmt dir der Wind die bunte Pracht
und es wird ganz grau bei Tag und Nacht.
So manchen Baum hat der Herbstwind umgerissen;
Haltet stand, ich will euch nicht missen!
Set Up
Here you can see the set for the backlight light painting. This time in our living room. Because there is a screen for the projector hanging there, which is wonderfully suitable for this type of photography. I positioned a flash on the right and left, which I triggered manually. A bit of light should fall on the model. For this I positioned some reflectors. The white ceiling did the rest. The camera was in bulb mode. The aperture was set to f11. An EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM lens was mounted on the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. I set the lens to 16mm in MF mode. The exposure time was about 2 minutes. I illuminated the leave with a lamp "LIGHTPAINTER RYU'S LIGHTWORKS" on level 2.
Hier seht ihr das Set für das Backlight Lightpainting. Diesmal in unserem Wohnzimmer. Denn da hängt eine Leinwand für den Beamer, die sich für diese Art der Fotografie wunderbar eignet. Rechts und links habe ich je einen Blitz positioniert, den ich manuell auslöste. Ein bisschen Licht sollte noch auf das Modell fallen. Dafür positionierte ich einige Reflektoren. Den Rest übernahm die weisse Decke. Die Kamera befand sich im Bulb-Mode. Die Blende war auf f11 eingestellt. An der Canon EOS 6D Mark II war ein Objektiv EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM montiert. Das Objektiv stellte ich auf 16mm im MF-Modus ein. Die Belichtungszeit betrug ca. 2 Minuten. Das Blatt beleuchtet ich mit einer Lampe “LIGHTPAINTER RYU´S LIGHTWORKS” auf Stufe 2.
In the image below you can see the setup for recording with the fractal filter. The camera was in bulb mode. The aperture was set back to f11. An EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM lens was mounted on the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. I set the lens to 16mm in MF mode. The exposure time was about 30 seconds. I illuminated the sheet with a lamp “LIGHTPAINTER RYU'S LIGHTWORKS” and some filters.
Im Bild unten seht ihr das Setup für die Aufnahme mit Fractal-Filter. Die Kamera befand sich im Bulb-Mode. Die Blende war wieder auf f11 eingestellt. An der Canon EOS 6D Mark II war ein Objektiv EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM montiert. Das Objektiv stellte ich auf 16mm im MF-Modus ein. Die Belichtungszeit betrug ca. 30 Sekunden. Das Blatt beleuchtet ich mit einer Lampe “LIGHTPAINTER RYU´S LIGHTWORKS” und einigen Filtern an.
The setup for the camera rotation was the same as for the fractal filters. I just changed the focal length to 24mm. The exposure time increased to about 160 seconds. The camera was rotated in 60° steps during the exposure and the leaf was illuminated for 2 seconds each time.

Das Setup für die Kamera-Rotation war das gleiche, wie das für die Fractal-Filter. Ich änderte nur die Brennweite auf 24mm. Die Belichtungszeit verlängerte sich auf ca. 160 Sekunden. Die Kamera wurde während der Belichtung in 60° -Schritten rotiert und das Blatt jeweils für 2 Sekunden angeleuchtet.
