"Bro, I really do need to get a job; one way or another, I just have to get a job because it is necessary. I have almost traveled out of this state on foot looking for any job I can just get on for the meantime." I said to Daniel, one of my closest friends

"Why do you want a job so badly? We just got out of high school and are still quite young to be so desperate about getting a job. There must be a reason for this desperation." Daniel responded

"Well, my phone got bad, and I am starting to feel like a burden to my parents already, though they are not complaining or saying anything, but I just feel it in my bones that I need to get something doing." I added

"Haha, just say you want to get your phone fixed or probably get a new one but feel like a burden? Do you think you can take care of yourself if they let you?" Daniel said as he continued laughing.

"Well, maybe with a good job, I can. I wonder why I even shared my problem with you." I said as I walked away.

"Don't be angry now, breadwinner." Daniel teased as he continued laughing.

I just got out of high school and was quite eager to start making some money for myself since all I ever wanted was to become financially independent, as I see myself as a burden to my parents, even though they were not complaining and felt like it was their responsibility to look after me and take care of my every need. I took it upon myself to go searching for jobs. All I ever wanted was to get an office job, at least if it were to be a personal assistant, but that was difficult as a guy, and also, many did not want a high school graduate.

If only the young me had known how difficult it can be to become financially independent, I wouldn't have wanted that at such a young age. I should have just let myself continue being a child and not try to think like an adult; maybe I would have enjoyed my childhood more that way. I continued my search for jobs; the few I got I did not like, but I found one with an interesting pay, and I was wondering if I should take the job because of the pay or not and decided to seek advice.

"Hey Dan, I need your advice on something, bro, and don't talk to me like you did the last time." I warned

"Don't worry, bro, I will be on my best behavior today, and I hope you forgive me for last time." Daniel responded

"So, after my search, I found a sachet water producing company. Though I was assured the job will be stressful, the pay is quite enticing, and I am thinking about taking the job, but I will be shy to be called a sachet water seller." I said with a very big smile on my face since we all saw the job as a petty job and did not expect such an enticing pay.

"Pure water seller," Daniel said as he burst into laughter. "Better don't take that job because even I will laugh at you with every given opportunity, bro. Just let it go and look for another job." Daniel added

We parted ways, and I went home thinking of how much I do need to get a job, even if not for financial independence, at least so I can fix my phone or probably get a new one. Three days later, I decided to take up the job without telling my friend and not following his advice.

"Well, we waited for you and did not hear from you again, so the vacant spot was given to someone else." The manager said

I came outside the company building and was walking towards the gate, only to get the shock of my life. The new employee that got my spot was my friend Daniel. They were about to go out for delivery; he just bowed his head and did not say a word. To date, we have never spoken about how he stole my thunder, but I learned how to keep my plans to myself.
