Hello, everyone.
I welcome my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. One of the things I am grateful for in our generation is the fact that we have technology, and it has really made life a lot easier for us. We have things that work out a lot easier than our parents and our forefathers had things working out for them. Ranging from communication, transportation, and life in general, we have so many things our parents did not have, and that makes our life easier, better, and more enjoyable than theirs. During the time of our forefathers, they did almost everything manually, if not everything, but then somehow we in this generation have options to choose from; we can get things done either manually, automatically, or we use a combination of both.
Technology took us from nothing to something and made things easier, and we now spend less time overcoming a task thanks to technology. Sometimes I doubt that we have gotten to the point that we are right now. Those days you had to visit the library to get any research or project work done; then over time we moved to the era where we could get all that we need for research online and then from the comfort of our homes, but we still had to do it by ourselves, but then somehow things have changed, and we have moved past that era and level.
Today we have artificial intelligence (AI); it gets the job done, and it gives you a very clean job if instructed properly and you are using the right tool (paid). During my final year project, my supervisor was strictly against the use of AI to carry out the research. I did my best to get papers and journals online and put the work together, but then he kept finding faults, and it was really frustrating and tiring because when I think I have gotten what he wanted, he finds another fault. After countless efforts to avoid using AI like he wanted I was forced to, I copied his WhatsApp message where he said what he wanted me to do, pasted it to ChatGPT, and sent ChatGPT the Word document with all the instructions needed to make sure the work stays the same and unchanged.
ChatGPT made an edit of my entire work that took me almost 2 months in about a minute and sent it back to me. I saved it, printed it, and took it to my supervisor, and he almost hugged me, and it was at that point that I regretted ever stressing myself and following his instructions not to use AI because I would have completed my project in a few days if I had used ChatGPT from the start. This same tool helped me overcome an academic task that was starting to become frustrating and tiring. To date, I keep wondering if there was no AI, how many times I would have done the correction of my project work, reprinted it, and kept going to my supervisor's office.
This same AI that made my life easy is being used wrongly by many individuals, and many who don't understand or know how to go about it are calling out the artificial intelligence and banning it rather than calling out those who are using it for the wrong cause. As for me, the tool is not the enemy; the abuse of this particular tool is the enemy, and the tool only follows instructions in which if we are to punish, we punish the one behind the instructions, not the tool. Punishing or banning AI is the same thing as banning the use of a cutlass because someone used it to cause harm to another person.
The abuser is the problem, not the tool. If we want to correct it, we punish the user who abuses the tool and not the tool as well as advise and educate people on the proper use of artificial intelligence (AI).
