Nowadays, it's about AI here and there. It has just been a topic of discussion both in our Internet world and physical world, just in every corner of our world, because it basically assists in numerous things we do daily. What an amazing technology indeed.
As much as its benefits are great, there are also concerns, and one of them is about how people use AI to generate explicit images and videos of real people without their consent. It's very tiring to wake up and see the unbelievable of what people do with AI with people's images and without their consent ; the feeling is painful, and anyone can be a victim, not necessarily celebrities this time.
However, I want to ask if AI is really our problem or if we are the real problem here.
Practically, we can use a knife to prepare our soups, and the same knife can also be used to hurt someone. Now, do you think we should do away with knives completely? People would have chosen to strictly use it for good purposes, but they choose to do otherwise. Talk about the use of social media; the same scenario applies to that. People choose to behave terribly over there, leaving aside the yummy good side of it.
Now, AI has joined the list. While some use it to create something valuable, helpful, and beautiful, and the list goes on, others decide to use it to embarrass themselves and others for their selfish reasons. Are we now to blame technology for that? Or better still, focus on the people misusing it? Our intentions matter a lot in this and we play a bigger role as well .
I think AI should be regulated. Perhaps adopt rules and regulations guiding its use and operation, including a law that protects people's images from being manipulated. Technology companies should also strive to have laid-down measures to prevent most of this misuse.
Having said that, we should rather do everything possible to never trash away the great side of AI over misuse that some people have chosen to use it for. We cant start listing the good side of this technology because it's numerous to mention. It's unfortunate that most of these AI users who create harmful content with it don't think about the possible consequences of their actions before they do so and how their victims feel; it's sad. Once they are cashing out, they don't care about fellow humans and their reputation.
Overall, I believe that technology will continue to advance, and we cannot expect every invention to remain the way it was when it first arrived. Hopefully, people will become more responsible as it continues to advance, and maybe they should come to the realization that access to a tool doesn't mean they should use it to harm others simply because they are benefiting from it.
