Fell Dragon
Greeting Readers!
We are nearing the end of the third book of Fell Dragon, so I'm ready you're prepared for it. It's gonna be a heart wrencher, but until then, have a plot twist.
Saita had gotten used to the large Saith following her over the course of several weeks. Though the attention was an irritation, his power was welcome. Not only did he and his fellow Saith merge fluidly with the work that was expected of them, but they were also the only training partners that Saita repeatedly failed to impress. They laughed at her when she showed them her various abilities, calling them flowery and a waste of energy before continuing with their own training under Bolx’s instruction. They may have laughed at her practising, but they did not laugh when Bolx allowed her to spar with them. She was strong and she knew how to fight dirty to get a win. No one complained. This was war, and you needed to do what needed to be done to survive. Some taught her some of their techniques, while others she needed to watch for several days before she was able to pick up the basics.
She marvelled at the stances they used to limber their bodies and prepare the flow of what they called energy through their body. Their power did not come from their core, like with humans, but rather they were able to gather the power from around them and manipulate what was in their hands. Saita marvelled at this but struggled to do it herself. It didn't matter how long she stared and watched them she was just not able to figure out how they did it.
“It’s genetic,” said Bolx as he sat next to her and pulled energy from the air. “We manipulate what is around us while you’re able to bring it up from the depths of your being. We each have our own abilities.”
“Usually, I am quite good at copying techniques. This would explain why I can’t do it,” she sighed as she patted the top of her son’s head. “What about you Aidan? Can you do that?”
The boy shook his head but produced a flame in one hand and snuffed it out with a motion from his other hand. “I can do that.”
“Good boy,” said the young woman with a smile as she hugged the child with one arm.
Bolx smiled when the boy hugged his mother, and the Saith asked. “What of the father? I haven’t seen you with anyone. Is he…?”
“Last I heard he had a baby boy born to him,” said Saita hurriedly.
“So, Aidan is…”
“A test tube baby!” said the boy with a laugh. “I know who my parents are.”
“You still need to go see your brother. Maybe after this war, you will get the opportunity to see your dad more often.”
Bolx couldn’t miss the sadness that was in Saita’s voice. He was about to say something when the dinner bell rang. Aidan jumped up, and Saita reached over to him to bring his forehead to hers for a few seconds before she released him. “Tell them I say hi.”
“Okay!”
Then he shot off in the direction of the mess hall without her.
“Are you not going to eat with him?” asked the Saith as he got to his feet.
Saita looked at the shaggy black hair that was barely tied in place, the sun-tanned skin with multiple white scars that crisscrossed every available inch of his skin. Today he was wearing blue, which, for some reason, matched his black hair, tail, and his pale blue eyes.
“I don’t eat,” she said as she looked at the training area empty of people. “Just like I don’t like to sleep. Food tastes of ash or nothing, I don’t know what is worse.”
“Perhaps I should cook for you.”
Saita grinned and said. “I guess it could be worse.”
She laughed at the Saith’s face for a few seconds before getting to her feet and making her way to the centre of the training area. “Anyway, now is the time that I like to train by myself. Go enjoy dinner.”
She went through various sets of techniques before she concluded the training with some running before stepping back from the treadmill to see that Barik had been keeping an eye on her all along.
“Did you not hear the dinner bell?”
“I did, I wasn't hungry,” he said. “I found it more amusing to watch the Commander falling over himself in front of you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Okay wow.” Barik sat down on a stationary bike and said. “You are an attractive woman, yes, even with the facial scar, and he has noticed. He has been flirting with you since he arrived here.”
“That isn’t flirting.” She scoffed. “He hasn’t made me run for the hills or blush yet.”
Barik laughed. “Who flirted with you in the past!”
“A childhood friend.” She smiled at the memory but then shook her head. “But that was all in the past. Can’t think of it now. He lost his wife and daughter. He shouldn’t be showing any interest in anyone.”
“Do you think that people are designed to only fall in love once, Saita?” chuckled Barik. “As I said, you are not a bad-looking girl, and he is not the ugliest of the Saith I have ever seen.”
“Oh, stop it!” Saita snapped.
“Kiai is right, you do go cherry-red when you are embarrassed.”
He got to his feet and continued. “I jest, girl. Do what you want. I will go see to it that your son is eating well and not just diving into the desserts. The showers should be cleared if you want to have a shower.”
The Saith then made his way to the mess hall while Saita muttered under her breath. “He wouldn’t want me if he knew what I was.”
“Myla where is Saita?” demanded Karesh.
Myla continued to work on the computer before her, refusing to look at the spare screen which was off to her right.
“I am not going to ask you again.”
“You made it very clear to her that the two of you cannot have a civil conversation, so I am not going to encourage her to reach out to her,” she said simply.
“She isn’t on the planet, is she?”
“As to where she is right now, I couldn’t tell you,” said the Queen.
“She is with Kiai.”
“That wasn’t a question.”
“Why is she with Kiai?”
“Why are you suddenly so interested in where your daughter is Karesh?” asked Myla as she finally turned to look at him. “You surely didn’t give a damn earlier.”
“Edzeeker was spotted on the planet,” Karesh continued. “But surely you must know this, you went there soon after that. You think I didn’t know?”
“Didn’t know what?” Myla continued to type.
“That several boxes arrived on the planet of which one contained medicine I know is used for Saita. I will ask again. Why is Saita with Kiai?”
“Saita is not with Kiai,” said Myla, watching her words very carefully.
“Kiai also said she hadn’t seen Saita since she left the hospital, but she never stated which hospital. Doran said he never saw Saita. I am sure at least one if not all of you are lying to me.”
“You are paranoid.”
“Really? Then maybe you can explain why you are sending letters to the enemy Myla?”
“Excuse me?”
“There have been several communications between you and the Saith. Why?”
“I want to stop an all-out war. Our daughter is back. Why continue?” she begged, finally breaking.
“It is the principal. They got in my way, and now they must pay. Are you going to get in my way Myla?”
“General Bolx what are we even doing here?” asked one of the Saith warriors that came to the dark-haired warrior’s room.
“Here it is Commander. I was not made General it would seem,” said Bolx as he hopped up onto his bunk bed before allowing the other Saith to take his previously unoccupied chair.
“Bolx then. The point is that we need to get out of here. Many of us still have doppelgangers and we cannot be seen with them.”
“Tak, I checked, Barik says each and every one of us died in that attack on the colonies.” Sighed the large man as he lay back on the bed. “The problem comes in with us trying to seamlessly integrate back into our former lives.”
“And the girl?”
“I know but what would you have me do? Kidnap her? She has no idea what she is yet. We are too early.” He covered his eyes. “To have to suffer the loss of my family again is hard.”
“We will be found out. Nothing matches up. Saith versus Humans? There was never war with them in our time.”
“No, and I fear it is because of the Fell Dragon. To manipulate so many timelines? The pure power it has is astounding.”
“We couldn’t defeat it before our world was consumed, and this world is already being consumed. It grows with each timeline and universe that it eats. It is going to be unstoppable very soon. She doesn’t have much time left before she has to stand up to it.”
“I know, but did you see how young she is? From what I understand she didn’t have The System put in her willingly.” Bolx sat up in the bed, and the top of his head brushed the ceiling. “The burden we have to place upon her is staggering, and I don’t think she is mentally prepared for it.”
“What choice do we have? The taint is already rooted here, at least five years earlier than what it was from our plane. General, please, make a move; speak to her.”
“How? She has no idea what she has gone through or what she even carries. Speaking to her will bring nothing but distrust and confusion.” Bolx ran his hand through his hair.
“I know you had a relationship with her back home, we all did. That a child was lost due to the taint, and then she sent us here but didn’t follow. She did it to give us time. General, please, either you talk to her or the Dark One will, and then you will never gain her trust. If you want what you left behind, you need to move this along. We were lucky enough to have been brought here in the first place. This is the crucial era; make use of it.”

Boom! Time travel! It continues. I love playing around with the time travel aspect of my worlds because of how much trouble I can cause. The only issue is that I have to keep track of who comes from where and how many universes have been created. Luckily for me, the Fell Dragon does a pretty good job cleaning up after me. I hope you all enjoyed it!
