Vintage Jackalope GSM California Mint Silver Round

Douglas Herrick of Douglas is credited with creating the American jackalope, which serves as the inspiration for the name of this silver round. The idea came to Herrick in 1932 after he and his brother went jackrabbit hunting and Herrick threw a dead rabbit into their taxidermy business, where it landed next to a pair of antlers. Herrick had the notion for a Jackalope because of this chance match. Using rabbit carcasses, the brothers stuffed and marketed jackalopes. The initial jackalope sold for ten dollars.

Rare Jackalope California Mint Silver Round G.S.M

This GSM Jackalope Silver Round is difficult to find. The jackalope is a terrifying mythical animal that is characterized as a jackrabbit with antelope horns in North American folklore. Although the pronghorn is not an antelope and the jackrabbit is not a rabbit, the term "jackalope" is a mixture of the terms "jackrabbit" and "antelope." Deer antlers are used to create a lot of taxidermy mounts of jackalopes, including the original.

Charming antique collectible bullion round. Quite rare and highly sought after.

Obverse: The obverse features a jackalope, a mythical animal looking like a rabbit with antelope horns. The name "JACKALOPE" is inscribed at the top. The letters "G.S.M." representing Golden State Mint can be found at the bottom.

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the trade scales, an image found on many trade unit silver rounds. At the top edge the phrase "THE INTERNATIONAL" is inscribed and is continued at the bottom with "WORLD TRADE UNIT". The content "ONE TROY OUNCE" is inscribed immediately below the top inscription. The scales are flanked by sprigs of ivy on either side. Underneath the left scale the weight "31.1 GRAMS" is inscribed which is matched by "480 GRAINS" located beneath the right arm of the scale. The base of the scale contains the name "CALIFORNIA MINT".
