Vintage 1974 USPS Universal Postal Union Round

Like other bullion, vintage silver rounds and bars exist in a variety of sizes and shapes with different finishes. Vintage silver is becoming harder to locate and increasingly in demand. Several of the most well-liked bars and rounds can come in multiple variations and have mintages of fewer than 500 pieces.

This is the other USPS vintage silver round that I found. You can view the first one shown HERE.

1974 USPS Universal Postal Union Round BU

One of the 12 silver rounds commissioned and done by the U,S Mint in the early 1970's. It is to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Foreign Mails. The mintage numbers for this silver round is unknown.

A replica of a US stamp from 1949 commemorating the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is featured in the center of the obverse.

An airplane is shown orbiting the earth on the stamp. "FOREIGN MAILS" is written right below the words "100TH ANNIVERSARY" at the top. The words "UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION" are inscribed just above the beginning and ending anniversary dates, which are situated at the bottom. Ivy sprigs adorn the round's lower left and lower right corners.

Just like the reverse of the other silver round, this silver round has the textural inscription of the anniversary and the USPS logo under it.

1874 - 1974 On September 13, 1874, the first international postal congress opened at Berne, Switzerland. The Congress drafted a treaty which simplified and standardized international postage rates. The permanent organization was at first known as the General Postal Union but later became the Universal Postal Union. Since its founding this single body has controlled the exchange of mail between member nations.

Silver bullion 1 Oz and fractional coins are minted by governments. Since this silver round was minted by the U.S. Mint, it can be classified as Government Silver, in the same vein as the U.S. Mint American Medals.

There were twelve silver rounds that were minted. If anyone here finds any of these rounds, I'd like to know!

These are the USPS vintage rounds.
