Christmas Crafts is back!

Last year, I have published a series of Christmas crafts under the name "Crafting 4 Christmas". This year I decided to change the name to "Christmas Crafts". You are now visiting part one of the series and there are many more crafts following before we reach boxing day. I hope you will be here to follow this year's crafting fun and maybe get inspired to start crafting yourself as well. If you decide to make your own version of my craft, I would love to see a tag, or maybe leave a comment below to show your own creation.

Christmas Gnomes

I don't know if you see these pop up where you live as well, but for at least the second year now, I've been seeing these (sometimes huge!) Christmas gnomes in about every store where they sell some Christmas decorations. Last year I thought they were cool, but expensive, and I didn't have any supplies to make one myself, so I left it at that. This year, I decided to make a few gnomes myself and this one is the first one I'm going to share with you.

Tools and supplies

I often like to think of crafts that don't require too many supplies and tools. It's nice to share crafts that you can create using just a few supplies and quite a low budget. I had all the items in the house from previous crafting moments, if you don't, you can think of using something to replace the missing item. For example, the wooden bead can be replaced by another bead (maybe even a red one!) or you can use foam instead of felting for the gnome and the hat. The possibilities are endless and this tutorial is made to inspire you to get your creativity flowing.

This is all I used, with the note that I decided to not use the googly eyes, because I actually liked my gnome without them. It's up to you if you use eyes or not!

  • 10x10 cm green felt
  • 8x8 cm red felt
  • a few felt rounds to decorate the hat (be creative)
  • a wooden bead
  • some macrame rope, this one is 5 mm thick
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • a small part of extra felt for the back of the beard (to easily attach it to the gnome)

This is the point where I got so excited that I totally forgot to capture the red hat and applications on it. But I do believe it speaks for itself. You wrap around the red felt so a hat appears, and once attached, you add the applications of your choice. In my case, the different felt rounds I cut.

Here he is, mr Christmas Gnome! This was the point where I decided to leave him without google eyes, as I like it as is.
How do you like him?

The end result

I gave the gnome a place under the Christmas tree:

He may get lonely there without any friends though, I may have to find him some other friends soon ;)
