An Authentic Dish Of Nepal: Thakali Khana

Thakali Khana is one of the traditional dishes of Nepal. The name comes from the one of the oldest ethnic group of Nepal: Thakali who lives in the Thak Khola in Mustang (North), Nepal. Mustang has border with Tibet, China. And Thakali dish consists of all the items that grow locally in this region. Their unique style of preparing dish is the reason why such people have been successful in running Thakali Bhancha Ghar (Restaurant) all around the Nepal. In every corner of the busiest cities, Thakali restaurants are easier to find.

Serving is done on Thakali plate that consists of steamed bowl of rice, spinach, gravy chicken, raddish pickle, tomoato pickle, lentils, fried potato, papad, sweet curd and salad. In other restaurants, they serve even more depending on their menu. They include mushroom, mutton, fish and price varies for each of them. You can see how they organised all these food items clearly, neatly. Besides the rice, other items are little in quantity and this is the beauty of this cuisine. Eating in little quantities is very appetizing than overeating. You get to enjoy taste of each food. The price of this was Rupees 495 ($4.15). Many of these foods are fried with either mustard oil or ghee.
