Cakes in birthday celebrations vary, including cupcakes, cake pops, pastries, and tarts. The cake is often decorated with a "happy birthday" wish in the birthday person's name.
It started in ancient Rome, when cakes were made with round shapes from flour, nuts, yeast, and sweetened with honey. This cake is served during special moments, such as birthdays for example. In early Europe, the words cake and bread were visually interchangeable, the only difference being that cake was sweeter while bread was not.
In the 17th century, the shape of the cake was more or less the same as it is now, complete with parts such as layers or decorations. But at that time birthday cakes were available only to the rich. Birthday cakes eventually became popular because of the industrial revolution, when ingredients and equipment were easier to obtain.
