La hospitalización de Baby Bee (Esp/Ing)

Saludos hivers. Espero que se encuentren bien, disfrutando momentos agradables al lado de la familia y seres queridos. Hoy vengo a contarles cómo fue la hospitalización de Alma en la clínica Santa Rosa. La bebé estuvo en Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos, pues era prioritario monitorear sus signos vitales después de la cirugía. Además, había que vigilar la herida, el drene conectado a la cabeza, posible estado febril, inflamación, amorotamiento o enrojecimiento del rostro. Gracias a Dios, la niña reaccionó muy bien y se mantuvo estable. Cuatro enfermeras estaban a cargo de ella, eso me dio un poco de tranquilidad.

Greetings hivers. I hope you are well, enjoying pleasant moments with your family and loved ones. Today I am here to tell you about Alma's hospitalization at the Santa Rosa clinic. The baby was in Pediatric Intensive Care, as it was a priority to monitor her vital signs after the surgery. In addition, the wound, the drain connected to the head, possible fever, inflammation, bruising or redness of the face had to be monitored. Thank God, the girl reacted very well and remained stable. Four nurses were in charge of her, which gave me some peace of mind.

El segundo día conversé con el neurocirujano y la pediatra, ambos se complementaban y llevaban el caso de la pequeña. Me confirmaron que la recuperación iba muy bien. La atención de estos especialistas fue extraordinaria, siempre estuvieron pendiente de cada detalle, anotando en la historia médica todos los pormenores, así quedaba un registro de los medicamentos suministrados y los valores en cuanto a evacuaciones, cantidad de orina, tensión, fiebre y pulsaciones cardíacas.

On the second day I spoke with the neurosurgeon and the pediatrician, both of whom complemented each other and were in charge of the little girl's case. They confirmed that the recovery was going very well. The attention of these specialists was extraordinary, they were always aware of every detail, noting all the details in the medical history, so there was a record of the medications given and the values in terms of bowel movements, amount of urine, blood pressure, fever and heart rate.

En horas de la tarde, trasladaron a Baby Bee a una habitación, allí se continuaría con el Cuidado Intensivo, acondicionaron el espacio con la cuna y los equipos de monitoreo. Desde ese momento, la alimentación fue más constante, debía ser precavida con las mangueras, la del drene era la de mayor preocupación para mí, pues allí caía la sangre y el líquido de la herida de la cabeza. A mi pequeña le estaban suministrando vancomicina, cefalexina (antibióticos), dexametasona (antiinflamatorio), omeprazol (protector gástrico) y, en principio, le colocaron morfina para el dolor intenso. Luego, le cambiaron el medicamento por paracetamol.

In the afternoon, Baby Bee was moved to a room where the Intensive Care would continue, and the space was set up with the crib and the monitoring equipment. From that moment on, the feeding was more constant, I had to be cautious with the hoses, the drain hose was the one that worried me the most, since the blood and the liquid from the head wound were falling into it. My little girl was being given vancomycin, cephalexin (antibiotics), dexamethasone (anti-inflammatory), omeprazole (gastric protector) and, at first, she was given morphine for the intense pain. Later, the medication was changed to paracetamol.

Alma tenía dos vías, una en cada pie, las cuales se le filtraron al transcurrir de las horas. Entonces se las fueron cambiando a los brazos. La pullaron varias veces y lloró bastante y yo lloraba con ella, me causaba mucho dolor verla así. En esta oportunidad, hay que reconocer que las enfermeras fueron muy cuidadosas, sin embargo, tomarle la vía a un recién nacido es un proceso muy delicado, pues son tan delgadas que se le rompen con suma facilidad. Para colocar los medicamentos, debíamos permanecer casi inmóviles, conectadas a una máquina, en una silla de madera -nada cómoda- por más de dos horas, puesto que el líquido pasaba lentamente. Yo la amamantaba para que pudiera quedarse tranquila. Este proceso se repetía varias veces en la madrugada, así que el cansancio se apoderaba de mí, tenía muchas horas sin dormir. Tanto fue así que la pediatra recomendó comprar una fórmula para que pudiera descansar.

Alma had two IVs, one in each foot, which leaked as the hours went by. Then they switched them to her arms. She was pulverized several times and cried a lot and I cried with her, it caused me a lot of pain to see her like that. On this occasion, we must recognize that the nurses were very careful, however, taking the IV line to a newborn is a very delicate process, since they are so thin that they break very easily. To administer the medications, we had to remain almost immobile, connected to a machine, in a wooden chair -not at all comfortable- for more than two hours, since the liquid passed slowly. I would breastfeed her so that she could stay calm. This process was repeated several times in the early hours of the morning, so tiredness took over me, I had many hours without sleep. So much so that the pediatrician recommended buying a formula so she could rest.

Al ser una operación delicada, las visitas estaban totalmente restringidas. La enfermera de turno, mi esposo y yo debíamos cumplir las medidas preventivas para evitar el riesgo de infección (uso de la mascarilla, bata y gorro médico, correcto lavado de manos e higiene corporal con jabón y alcohol). Además, la habitación debía permanecer pulcra, así que el personal de limpieza se encargaba de esto de forma periódica.

As it was a delicate operation, visitors were totally restricted. The nurse on duty, my husband and I had to comply with preventive measures to avoid the risk of infection (use of the mask, gown and medical cap, proper hand washing and body hygiene with soap and alcohol). In addition, the room had to remain neat, so the cleaning staff took care of this on a regular basis.

Fueron siete días desafiantes. La demanda de atención era fuerte, mi esposo me ayudaba en las noches, mientras las enfermeras supervisaban cada monitor y colocaban los medicamentos a la hora correspondiente. Alma estuvo intranquila las primeras dos noches, luego, durmió un poco más. Sin duda, se sentía protegida en mis brazos y yo estaba ahí para ella. Traté de abrazarla mucho, darle ese calor que le generaba seguridad. No es fácil pasar por una cirugía de esta envergadura y Alma ha evolucionado de forma satisfactoria. Ahora nos encontramos en casa, aplicando los mismos cuidados que en la clínica.

It was a challenging seven days. The demand for care was heavy, my husband helped me in the evenings, while the nurses supervised each monitor and placed the medications at the appropriate time. Alma was restless the first two nights, then she slept a little more. She certainly felt protected in my arms and I was there for her. I tried to hug her a lot, to give her that warmth that gave her security. It is not easy to go through a surgery of this magnitude and Alma has evolved satisfactorily. We are now at home, applying the same care as in the clinic.

Hive family, let's keep praying for Baby Bee's health, she knows she has unconditional love in you.
