I dislike runny nose whether it is on me or my children. Having a runny nose is not fun at all, you have to constantly wipe it off and sniffing away while doing your normal daily routine. Hence, I always pray that any runny nose quickly runs away.
My children laughed the first time they heard this term 'runny nose'. With their imagination wild and free, they find the scene of a nose running is hilarious. Wait till they get any cold and have a runny nose. Usually, the younger the children, they suffer more if they get a cold. The runny nose is irritating enough, on top of that, toddler hasn't learned to skill to clear the nose mucous, so when they sleep at night, it got stucked inside, causing them breathing difficulty. To make things worse, mummy used the nasal suction trying to suck out the mucous. What a nightmare to young children!
Jansen went through suctioning since young. It was one of the many procedures he had to go through at hospital daily. Because his lungs had not reached the maturity to expand to expel any mucous, suctioning was THE best way to clear his airway. Doctors did not want him to be deprived of proper oxygen intake.
And I hate this procedure on him. Small tubes would be inserted into his nostrils right until the chest area and suctioning began. After nostrils, the tube would be inserted via his mouth. If the secretion was runny and clear, it was good. But if the secretion was thick and yellowish, they would send it to be lab to check for any possible infection. Praise God he does not need it now. Yay!
