Over the years neighbours and friends within and around the globe have known the people of Knox as the most generous and kind hearted beings. This has made several persons to flock to their tiny nation for vacations and sight seeing adventure.
Nobody knows the secret of this wonderful behavioural attitude until one day Austin decided to decode it. That fateful day, he set out to one of the villages in the hinterlands where he had scheduled with a tour guide to meet an aged woman.
When he took off that fateful morning, he saw statue of a young man placed at the city centre with a flute between his lips. He has seen that statue elsewhere and in many places but never cared to ask who he is or was as the case may be.
This morning was still the same. He quickly glanced at it and then removed her eyes.
As Austin and his tour guide alighted from the bus, they head straight to the house of the old lady - it turned out to be a hud house where only her lives. Her children had all gone out to the city in search of greeener pastures while the husband had long died.
They were well received by the lady who had prepared a local delicacy for the entertainment of her august visitors.
After consuming a bit of the delicacy, Austin began slowly - "ma, please what is the secret of this kindness and good heart radiating within and around the community?"
The old lady simply laughed and started slowly to narrate a story which has spanned over many decades.
According to her, a group of young women had mistakenly picked some delicious bean which they cooked and served on their husbands and family members. Thereafter, their entire families became more kind and joyous people to the amazement of all. They started fostering stronger relationships and bonds that can't be broken. Their family unity became the envy of all.
The next day, the entire community started searching for the legendary delicious bean, said to bring joy to anyone who tasted it. That search was extended even beyond the forest where the young ladies had gone to hunt for wild fruits.
Nobody was able to find it including the ladies who had picked them few days ago. Until one day when a young boy stumbled on a beautiful bean tree growing beside the community stream. Instincts told him that the bean tree must be the one everyone was looking for. He climbed and harvested few and went home.
That night, he cooked the delicious bean and his family ate and experienced it - they became joyous and more kind. The next day the young boy took his flute to the market square and gathered the entire community and broke the news to them.
He led them all to the seaside where the golden bean tree was standing. The community harvested and went home. The community leaders made sure that the delicious bean got to every family and they ate and that was it.
The young man was then immortalized by mounting his statue at various strategic places within the Knox community.
