A few nights ago, I visited a friend's place to spend the evening watching movies or a series with our partners. We browsed HBO Max for a while and came across a series I was familiar with but hadn't actually watched. I knew about it from advertisements and from friends who had recommended it back when it first came out, knowing how good it was. As for me, I hadn't watched it because I was busy with other shows at the time and had simply forgotten about it—until I finally watched it a few days ago.

Revisamos por un rato la plataforma de HBO Max, y en su catálogo se encontraba una serie que ya conocía, pero que realmente no había visto. Yo sabía de esta por su publicidad y por algunos amigos que en su momento me la recomendaron y que ya sabían lo buena que es. Yo, por mi parte, no la había visto porque en ese momento estaba viendo otras cosas y sin más la había olvidado, hasta hace unos días que la vi.
Common Side Effects is an animated series for adults centering on a man pursued by corporations attempting to suppress a discovery he made. While visiting Peru, Marshall discovered a fungus capable of regenerating the body and curing all manner of diseases—even those deemed incurable. Naturally, pharmaceutical companies—driven by hypocrisy—are after him; his discovery threatens their revenue stream, echoing the well-known conspiracy theory that Big Pharma has no interest in actually curing us, preferring instead to keep us as lifelong patients.
Common Side Effects es una serie animada para adultos, en donde su protagonista es un sujeto perseguido por algunas corporaciones que están tratando de evitar que un descubrimiento que este tuvo salga a la luz. Marshall, en su visita a Perú, descubrió un hongo con la capacidad de regenerar y curar todo tipo de enfermedad en el cuerpo, hasta aquellas que se creen incurables. Obviamente, las farmacéuticas, bajo su hipocresía, están tras él, porque esto significa que sus pacientes dejarán de darles dinero, recordando la famosa teoría conspirativa de que las farmacéuticas no nos quieren curar, sino que nos quieren como pacientes para siempre.
This series also educates us about fungi and their benefits, teaching us how to cultivate them, what they need, and how they adapt over time. Its animation is also noteworthy; it is unconventional and distinct, yet visually pleasing—especially considering it comes from a studio as popular as Adult Swim. With unique scenes, a soothing soundtrack, and engaging, entertaining characters that keep you glued to the screen, it offers a unique story that will captivate you and change the way you view certain things.
Esta serie nos educa también sobre los hongos y sus beneficios, nos enseña cómo cultivarlos, lo que necesitan y cómo se adaptan a través del tiempo. También, su animación es digna de mención, pues esta es una no convencional y algo diferente, pero que a simple vista es cómoda, aun más sabiendo que viene de un estudio tan popular como Adult Swim. Con escenas únicas, una banda sonora muy cómoda y la capacidad de mantenerte en la TV en todo momento con sus personajes, que son muy atractivos y muy divertidos también, una historia única que te atrapará y te hará ver algunas cosas de manera distinta.
I don’t want to come across as a fan of hallucinogens; quite the opposite—I’ve had a bad experience with them. While this series does seem to view them quite favorably, we have to remember that the story is pure fiction, so we should focus primarily on the boundaries being pushed. Indeed, there are many mushrooms that—beyond their hallucinogenic properties—can be edible, poisonous, or serve as a sign. This brings me to a point: even though that particular storyline was cut short, the side effects or aftereffects of the fungus served as the feast laid out for the second season—and I certainly look forward to its arrival.
No quiero ser simpatizante de los alucinógenos; al contrario, tengo una mala experiencia con ellos. Esta serie sí parece simpatizar mucho con ella, pero también hay que recordar que esta historia es totalmente ficción, así que hay que buscar principalmente con los límites. So, the name of this series I think will start to make sense when the main topic is these side effects of the fungus; I think that will be the most exciting part that this series will offer us. If you are a lover of black comedy, conspiratorial and even educational themes, without a doubt this would be very exciting for you too. This series is currently available on HBO Max, the original home of Adult Swim and where you can find a good part of this production company's products.
