I felt like writing some dialogue for today's prompt of 'fever' 😄
“I think I have a fever.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I think I really do this time. It’s probably best you go out instead,” he suggested, leaning against a wall backstage.
“No, unh-uh, not this time. They’re all here as fans of your book, John. They’re here to appreciate and listen to you. So let them,” Rosie said. John remained unconvinced, his nerves and self-doubt staying put. She sighed.
“Look. You’re my brother and I love you but you need to pull yourself together. If no one wanted to hear about your easter eggs and how you wrote the thing, a best-seller mind you, then they wouldn’t have come. Some people even cosplayed as your characters.” At this John looked up slowly.
“They dressed up like them?” He asked, humbled at the fact.
“Yes, and if you just get out there you can see for yourself.”
Though still with trepidation, John started to cast off his fear and made his way to the stage. His hands shaking, he began walking to the spotlighted podium to a wake of grand applause.
That’s the dream, isn’t it? Maybe not the stage-fright, but I know I’d love to have that kind success with my writing.
