For week 424, I am enjoying random IPAs while enjoying the various summer activities
The pint of the Week is a regular feature because pints on the town with friends is important and I am sure 1600+ across the globe wouldn't follow me if I was solely a pint-chugging basement troll. This pint was enjoyed at my favourite local Indian Restaurant Raja Stratford. I don't drink much Heineken anymore because of my IPA obsession, the rich craft brewery landscape here, and the fact that ~75% of the beer I drink, we brew for ourselves. That being the case, showing up to snap a few fresh social media pics and being offered a beer and spicy snacks makes being a #beerologist even sweeter.
Road Trip from Home!
A revent visit to Black Swan Brewing in town recently left me stocked up on short cans of IPA for the fridge. This one is a session IPA that evolved into a session ale, light and tasty enough for a road trip. Back in the day, it was not unheard of for certain underage redneck teenagers who had a friend with a car to grab a case of beer and go drink it while cruising the back roads. Those days are behind me and this road trip was conducted in my man cave while safely watching one of the UFC events with friends on the headset.
Hawaiian Vacation on Lake Ontario!
Top continue the contradiction with Black Swan, here is another of my haul of short cans of IPA. This time, it is Hawiian Vacation NEIPA while on the boat in the harbor of Lake Ontario. In a semi-related note, if you are a sailor, recreational or otherwise, check out @knot waving the sailing flag since 2017 but only recently resurrected.
Back to the beer, it was a nice tight tasty and refreshing tease to fuel the Sunday race. Subtle in the adjunct additives but definitely a little on the fruity and bold side of beer. Will have again...like in this pic while I am enjoying and evening and a book.
Basement Beers!
All summer can't be outdoor adventure, sailing, camping, lounging and adventure. Well, yes it actually can and a good addition to that is a visit to a craft brewery on a hot summer road trip. What makes it even better is when you find a 1-off, non-core IPA at one of your faves that you have never tasted before. This one is from my patented tap room in the basement where the cool air conditioning is as good a part of summer as the outdoors.
I have only developed a deeper appreciation for Jackass Brewing in the last couple of years. Building upon their solid and citrussy Sunkiss IPA, I was pleased to find this experimental batch of Haze #5 in cans to take home! Water, Barley, Hops and Wheat like our NEIPA but totally different hops in Nelson Sauvin and Mandarina. The former are natively from New Zeland and the latter are from Germany so it was a very interesting change from the yakima regional hops dominance in IPAs. Delicious and I would consider adding it to the core rotation if I were them.
Usually, I arrive with beer so the people don't have to be without.
