It has been a month since my last gardening post. It has been rather busy! Besides all my activity on Hive and my full-time job, there is also daily work around the house that is NOT in the garden.
School work, housework, cooking, and socializing. Need to look after these kids and their academicals.
But in between, often if I arrive from work in the afternoons, where I jump into the garden and go poking around a bit. With that limited time and constant bits of care, the garden has been evolving.
Last time on my gardening post I was here:
I had set up one compost heap and this is where the second heap would be. There was still a lot of branches and other garden scraps to cut apart. So my process was to throw everything into the first heap while I clear this space.

And from the inside you can see the crate wall I placed down. It just has some bricks and earth stamped in either side keeping it there. It is quite heavy. I will just need to check it and reinforce it after rain.
Also you can see that I have split out some of the newer additions to the old heap into this pile. This pile now becomes the new pile and everyone in the family (
Meanwhile, the older pile will be left to mature.
This will be turned daily (when it is not raining) and I added two bags of store-bought compost to help it along.
After turning that a bunch of times, the compost has dissapeared. I will maybe look at taking a picture every couple of days after turning it so you can see how it ages.
There were some leftover pieces of "precon" wall left on the property. I put these down along the gutter next to the garage so people can walk to the compost heap without getting full fo grass or sand. This will be next to the new veggie garden!
Here I have started chopping out the wild grass to make room for the veggie garden. I might plant straight to ground. I might build some raised beds... I might do a bit of both.
So this is the first little block that has been cleared!
I will be clearing some of this away as I get a chance to do so. I will also be watering it and letting it stand to allow weeds and things to start growing that I can then pull before I plant anything else.
We are going into winter now but it is not like some of the other people on Hive where I see it snows shut. It just rains here. So all that happens is you have to choose winter crops. It usuall goes between 4C and 12C in the winter and every now and then gets a bit hotter.
Very rarely, it snows on nearby mountains and then it is colder than ever. We shall shee how this year goes.
Indoors I will need to start germinating little plants from seeds. I have my own way of doing it and I have germinated, planted and harvested cucumber, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and a herb garden. That was achieved in a MUCH smaller space so I am excited to get going on this project!
Meanwhile... the garage is still a mess... I need my workshop... So much to do!
