Perhaps the pastel colors of this movie, so characteristic, are the perfect contrast for the cold and lonely way the character feels.
How Theodore, the protagonist of this movie, goes through an increasingly isolated world, where even his own profession, which is that of a letter writer, tells us about a society that has gradually lost the ability to express in the best way what it feels, a bit of what happens to ours, and although technology is a powerful tool, perhaps a bit more advanced than ours today, people still prefer to put functions like this in the hands of other humans, expressing what is felt for another person. Taking this as a starting point, Her explodes.
A lonely man who is dedicated to expressing the feelings of others finds an unusual companion: an AI assistant. We must keep in mind that this movie takes place many years before AI became part of our daily lives and somewhat anticipates, prophesies many of the phenomena that we are living right now.
Theodore meets Samantha for a fortuitous reason, an update of his own system. And perhaps this is the first great act. Samantha is able to name herself, to see among all the possibilities and choose one that she believes, according to the little she knows about herself, goes with her personality; because yes, here in this world AIs have their own personality and it is something that we can go discovering little by little about Samantha while she herself discovers the world around her.
Our two protagonists, both human and AI, have, are developing, rather, a relationship little by little that builds slowly at first, but that has a frenetic overflow. Samantha, as a companion who is always available to attend at any time and who is capable of connecting or genially matching with the deepest feelings or thoughts of this man who in his isolation seeks to escape a memory that torments him, that of his previous wife.
And how in this dance of comings and goings of wanting to continue advancing in life, but having an anchor, Samantha manages to take his pace and complement him, a bit taking him out of that hole where he found himself emotionally and at this point love arises.
Because inherently this is a love movie, even if it develops between a man and an artificial intelligence, but an artificial intelligence that far surpasses what we have today, because Samantha is capable of feeling.
Without being the center, in this movie the questions between what is human, the man, and the machine are also given; how Theodore manages to fall in love with Samantha, but without eluding the conflicts that Samantha can bring so that for him it is not entirely real and perhaps for a part of society either.
Because, although Theodore is not the only one who develops a relationship with his AI assistant, we do experience how the world relates to them through their relationship, in part through their friends or co-workers, who fully accept her as one more member of their group, having these trips and encounters.
Where we realize that perhaps we live in a more advanced society, capable of accepting that not all relationships must be of the traditional way and how they integrate in different ways, because not everyone who intends to have a relationship with their assistant achieves it, giving a certain free will and conscience to these own artificial intelligences.
And the counterpart of this is Theodore's ex-wife, who upon finding out that his new relationship is with an artificial intelligence does not understand it, has a certain outburst of anger upon feeling replaced by something she does not consider real and more from the point that she is the one, from what the movie lets us know, who leaves Theodore.
From this point, the movie falls into a spiral of questions about being, a spiral that ends with a very conflictive scene, perhaps the one that brings the most shock to the movie, which is the one that explores trying to discover another person through the body of someone else.
Idea that is sown as perhaps the strongest conflict between these two protagonist characters, but that is overcome before erupting in a more tragic way, perhaps marking the point of maturity as well of the relationship when, after overcoming its first crises, this is consolidated.
But perhaps the most interesting twist, and this does enter a bit into the spoiler, is how Samantha experiences the world differently from Theodore, how the emotions and feelings of a consciousness that can have access to all the information in the world at the same time and to all the people in the world at the same time, manifest themselves in a completely different way to what Theodore could assimilate as a relationship and to the links that we can normally establish between humans and understand as healthy links.
Being this the point that precipitates the last quarter of the narration, until reaching the culminating point where finally the separation arrives. This not given from human jealousy or problems, so to speak, but making a metaphor of the decadence that occurs in all relationships and how cutting off for good this zero-contact phase taken to the extreme is a necessary point for many people to move forward and face the consequences of this zero contact.
Our protagonist has a catharsis, one where perhaps the movie suggests that he manages to have healthy links again and that serves as a lesson to reconnect with the people around him, make peace with his past through a beautiful letter he writes to his wife, with which the movie marks its close and perhaps rewrite a future for himself that is more hopeful.
Thus, Her acts as a mirror for the phases of a relationship and how we face them in an increasingly digitized world, where human relationships seem to be a thing of the past or be increasingly distant, mediated by technology, but that this movie, almost 15 years before having these problems really in our hands, manages to glimpse them and make us connect with ourselves through it.

Un hombre solitario que se dedica a expresar los sentimientos de los demás encuentra una compañía insólita: un asistente de IA. Debemos tener en cuenta que esta película sucede muchos años antes de que la IA fuese parte de nuestra cotidianidad y un poco que adelanta, profetiza muchos de los fenómenos que ahora mismo estamos viviendo.

Nuestros dos protagonistas, tanto humano como IA, van teniendo, van desarrollando, más bien, una relación de a poco que se construye lento en un principio, pero que tiene un desbordamiento frenético. Samantha, como una compañera que siempre está disponible para atender en cualquier momento y que es capaz de conectar o congeniar con los sentimientos o los pensamientos más profundos de este hombre que en su aislamiento busca escapar de un recuerdo que lo atormenta, el de su anterior esposa.
Y como en esta danza de ires y venires de querer seguir avanzando en la vida, pero tener un ancla, Samantha logra llevar su paso y complementarlo, un poco sacarlo de ese agujero donde se encontraba emocional y en este punto surge el amor.
Porque inherentemente esta es una película de amor, aunque se desarrolle entre un hombre y una inteligencia artificial, pero una inteligencia artificial que supera con creces lo que tenemos hoy, porque Samantha es capaz de sentir.
Sin que sea el centro, en esta película también se dan los cuestionamientos entre lo que es humano, el hombre, y la máquina; cómo Teodoro logra enamorarse de Samantha, pero sin eludir los conflictos que puede traer que Samantha para él del todo no sea real y tal vez para una parte de la sociedad tampoco.
Porque, si bien no es Teodoro el único que desarrolla una relación con su asistente de IA, sí experimentamos cómo se relaciona el mundo con ellos a través de su relación en parte a través de sus amigos o compañeros de trabajo, los cuales la aceptan plenamente como un miembro más de su grupo, teniendo estos viajes y encuentros.
Donde nos damos cuenta que tal vez vivimos en una sociedad más avanzada, capaz de aceptar que no todas las relaciones deben ser de la forma tradicional y cómo se integran de diferentes maneras, porque no todo el mundo que pretende tener una relación con su asistente lo logra, dándole cierto libre albedrío y conciencia a estas propias inteligencias artificiales.
Y la contraparte de esto es la exesposa de Teodoro, quien al enterarse de que la nueva relación de este es con una inteligencia artificial no lo comprende, tiene un cierto estallido de ira al sentirse sustituida por algo que ella no considera real y más desde el punto que ella es quien, por lo que nos deja saber la película, es quien deja a Teodoro.
Desde este punto, la película cae en una espiral de cuestionamientos sobre el ser, espiral que termina con una escena muy conflictiva, tal vez la que más choque trae la película, que es el que explora al intentar descubrir otra persona a través del cuerpo de alguien más.
Idea que se siembra como quizás el conflicto más fuerte que hay entre estos dos personajes protagónicos, pero que se supera antes de estallar de forma más trágica, tal vez marcando el punto de madurez así de la relación cuando, tras superar sus primeras crisis, esta se consolida.
Pero quizás el giro más interesante, y esto sí entra un poco en el spoiler, es cómo Samantha experimenta el mundo de forma diferente a Teodoro, cómo las emociones y sentimientos de una conciencia que puede tener acceso a toda la información del mundo a la vez y a todas las personas del mundo a la vez, se manifiesta en forma completamente distinta a lo que Teodoro podía asimilar como una relación y a los vínculos que normalmente podemos establecer entre humanos y entendemos como vínculos sanos.
Siendo este el punto que precipita el último cuarto de la narración, hasta llegar al punto culminante donde finalmente llega la separación. Esta no dada desde los celos o problemas humanos, por así decirlo, sino haciendo una metáfora de la decadencia que se da en todas las relaciones y cómo el cortar por lo sano esta fase de contacto cero llevada al extremo es un punto necesario para que muchas personas sigan adelante y enfrentándose a las consecuencias de este contacto cero.
Nuestro protagonista tiene una catarsis, una donde tal vez la película nos sugiere que logra tener vínculos sanos otra vez y que le sirve de lección para reconectar con las personas que tiene alrededor, hacer las paces con su pasado a través de una carta hermosa que escribe para su esposa, con la que la película marca su cierre y tal vez reescribir un futuro para sí mismo más esperanzador.
Así, Her hace de espejo para las fases de una relación y cómo las afrontamos en un mundo cada vez más digitalizado, donde las relaciones humanas parecen ser cosa del pasado o estar cada vez más distantes, mediadas por la tecnología, pero que esta película, casi 15 años antes de tener estos problemas realmente en las manos, logra avizorarlos y hacernos conectar con nosotros mismos a través de ella.
