I decided to watch Enough last night, because I saw Jennifer Lopez in it, but I honestly didn't expect the movie to become this intense.
The movie featured Slim (Jennifer Lopez), a waitress who met Mitch (Billy Campbell) and eventually married him. At first, everything looked like the kind of life many people dreamed about. She had a husband, a beautiful home and a daughter, Gracie. But it didn't take long before Slim discovered that her husband was not the man she thought he was.
Mitch became controlling and abusive, and Slim started living in fear. What made the situation even more painful was that she wasn't only thinking about herself anymore. She had her daughter to protect.
Slim eventually decided to leave, hoping that running away would give her and Gracie a chance to start over. But Mitch didn't let her go easily. He became obsessed with finding them, and Slim realised that hiding from him would not be enough.
This was where the movie became more interesting for me.
Instead of remaining the frightened woman I saw at the beginning, Slim started preparing herself to face Mitch. She learned how to defend herself and began planning how she could finally put an end to his control over her life.
I liked the change in Slim's character. Jennifer Lopez did a good job showing the difference between the woman who was scared of her husband and the woman who eventually decided that she had had enough.
Billy Campbell also played Mitch in a way that made his character very easy to dislike. He was charming at the beginning, but as his true character came out, the whole relationship became disturbing.
Gracie also added an emotional side to the story because Slim's decisions were not just about escaping an unhappy marriage. She was trying to protect her child too.
One thing I noticed about the movie was that it started more like a serious domestic drama, but later became much more of a revenge thriller. Some parts were quite dramatic, and not everything felt completely realistic. Critics also pointed out the movie's implausible elements and its shift into a more exaggerated thriller.
But personally, I still found it interesting to watch, especially because I wanted to see how Slim would finally deal with Mitch.
The movie also had some tense moments that kept me wondering what Mitch would do next and whether Slim would actually be able to escape him.
Overall, it was a tense movie about domestic abuse, fear, survival and a woman who eventually decided that she could not continue living under someone else's control.
