Hola, amigos.

Hi, friends. I hope you’re all doing great. Today is Monday, and for us moms, it’s a crucial day because it’s as if everything suddenly gets going. We get up early to get our little guy ready for his school day so that, once we’ve taken care of him and sent him off to school, we can kick off the day with the rest of our activities: as a mom, as a woman, as an entrepreneur, as a college student, and with all the other commitments I always take on. I admit that I’m busy afterward, but since I know myself, I know I need to be occupied with different things at the same time to keep my mind clear.

Diego’s Health and the Unexpected Flu 🤒

Last week, Diego couldn’t go to school because he was feeling under the weather with the flu. All it takes is for him to play for a little while with a child who has the flu for him to automatically catch it. He rarely gets sick, and I try to make sure he doesn’t play with sick children, but this time, he had a fever for three days, slept poorly, and we ended up spending money on treatment we hadn’t budgeted for.

Luckily, he followed his treatment to the letter and is already feeling much better. He still sounds a little congested when he coughs and has some phlegm, but he no longer has a fever or feels unwell, and he completed the treatment for his respiratory tract.

Organizing Uniforms: A Trick That Brings Peace of Mind 👕

The first thing I do—just like all of you—is make sure I have the complete uniform. Based on my experience with my older children, what I did was plan the purchase of uniforms on a day-by-day basis. I know not everyone will be able to do this, but I, thank God, was able to do it and ensure we had uniforms for every day.

This gives me peace of mind because I only have to wash enough white shirts on the weekends (Saturdays or Sundays) to fit in the washing machine, along with the pants, which I wash with other types of clothes. By the way, my husband bought him three pairs of school pants that I absolutely loved: the fabric looks very crisp, they hold their shape perfectly, and what I like most is that the back has elastic gathering, which fits his slim build very well.

My Rehabilitation and School Transportation Logistics 🚐

On the health front, I started a treatment prescribed by my physiatrist to work on my knee’s recovery, and well, it’s a work in progress. Before, my husband would help me take Diego to school in the morning, and I’d be in charge of picking him up at noon when school let out. However, since I had the accident—and because I still can’t drive—I had no choice but to hire a school transportation service.

Luckily, I managed to find a very reliable service that picks him up and brings him back home; I hand him over to the driver myself in the morning and wait for him here at noon. Diego leaves in high spirits with some close friends from school; he likes his ride, and it gives me great peace of mind.

Although this arrangement works out great for us, I always like to maintain direct contact with the classroom, see how the interaction is going there, and be present to plan ahead for activities or anything else that will be needed to ensure everything goes smoothly. Especially now that I’ve resumed my role as class representative and have also been included on the school’s general parent committee.

Nighttime Strategy: Homework Done and Suitcase Packed 📚

To avoid last-minute rushes, I check to make sure there’s no homework missing from his notebooks. I’ve taught him since he was little to do his homework the same day so nothing piles up.

In the late afternoon or early evening, we pack his backpack with everything he needs, except for his water bottle, which stays in the fridge until morning. That way, I know nothing gets taken out or added at the last minute, and his backpack is ready to go. Also, since he likes to get dressed at the dresser in the living room, I have him organize his clothes the night before: pants, underwear, socks, belt, and shoes. I ask him to clean his shoes himself; although in the end I usually end up giving them a quick wipe myself to make sure they’re cleaner, it’s important to me to teach him to take responsibility for his belongings.

The 6:00 a.m. ritual and breakfast at home ☀️

So, when the alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m., everything just flows. He gets up right away to get dressed and ready while I make breakfast. I’d much rather he eat a good breakfast here at home before leaving, because when he’s had to take food to school, he almost never finishes it and ends up bringing it back. This way, I make sure he leaves well-fed, hydrated with his cold water, and ready to learn.

Class Representative: My Commitment to Doing My Best for My Son ✂️🎨

This morning, the school bus picked him up, and I had to go to a meeting at school later. I used the morning to put together the class’s first bulletin board for this month’s birthday celebrants, so I was pretty busy with that.

Diego is my youngest child in school, and honestly, even though the workload sometimes overwhelms me, I enjoy being the class representative and making sure the activities are well organized. Unfortunately, most parents’ commitment these days is very low: few want to get involved or be part of the class, but everyone demands results without putting in any effort. That’s why, to make sure my son’s activities go as smoothly as possible, I prefer to put in the effort myself, knowing that it also benefits all the other children. That’s why I took on the role of class representative again this school year.

Insomnia, exhaustion, and a week that promises to be busy 🗓️

Last night I couldn’t sleep—I had insomnia—but I still had to get up very early to get Diego ready, drop him off at the school bus, finish up the details on the bulletin board, and take it over. Luckily, in the afternoon I was able to lie down for a while to recharge, because the week ahead is going to be pretty hectic.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, I’ll also be super busy as a mom—but in this case, to a future college student! It’s the day of the appointment to submit Danielito’s documents to the university. That has me feeling a mix of anxiety and joy, trusting in the process and knowing that God will be with him every step of the way.

I have several things to take care of these days: some medical appointments, work-related tasks, and household chores. On top of that, I’m in the middle of some interior renovations—painting the house—which have really disrupted my peace and quiet, along with a few other pending tasks I haven’t been able to tackle due to budget constraints. But anyway, I’m going through this process with faith in the results.

As young people say, “It’s Friday and my body knows it,” but we moms say, “It’s Monday and my mom body knows it too!” Let’s kick off the week with everything we’ve got—congratulations, and let’s go for more.
