The Second Beer of Christmas: The Mad Elf, by Troegs. They call this a holiday ale, brewed with cherries and honey.
I settled down with this beer for a night of murder mystery fun. I had received an "Unsolved Case" for Christmas and felt that this would be a great night to break it out with a beer.
This beer is really difficult for me to give a fair review of. I do not typically enjoy sweet beers and the cherry and honey combination of this beer was completely overpowering. I'd call it a "desert" beer, and some might enjoy it as such, but there was simply too much of the syrupy taste for me to even taste the underlying ale. It was really overwhelming.
I do enjoy holiday ales; I like spiced beers and spiced ciders, but this just wasn't it. It was so far from sweet it was like a base:acid opposite.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Tomorrow will be better!
