Personally, I don't think there’s a specific day for having a beer, especially when it’s really hot and we’re on vacation. Since the heat in Cumaná is intense and I haven't gone back to work yet, I decided yesterday—Friday—to buy some delicious beers and drink them in the comfort of my home, as I didn't feel like going out.
Personalmente, no creo que exista un día específico para tomar una cerveza, especialmente cuando hace mucho calor y estamos de vacaciones. Por eso, como el calor en Cumaná es intenso y aún no he vuelto al trabajo, ayer —viernes— decidí comprar unas cervezas deliciosas y disfrutarlas en la comodidad de mi hogar, ya que no tenía ganas de salir.
The beer I bought is called Morena; it’s one of the newest releases from Cervecería Regional, one of Venezuela's largest and oldest brewing companies. This lager-style beer has an alcohol content of 5% and comes in two formats: a can and a returnable bottle. The 355ml cans cost $1.30, while the 222ml returnable bottles cost less than $1.
La cerveza que compré se llama Morena; es uno de los lanzamientos más recientes de Cervecería Regional, una de las empresas cerveceras más grandes y antiguas de Venezuela. Esta cerveza estilo lager tiene una graduación alcohólica del 5 % y viene en dos presentaciones: lata y botella retornable. Las latas de 355 ml cuestan 1,30 $, mientras que las botellas retornables de 222 ml cuestan menos de 1 $.
I’ve liked this beer ever since it hit the market. I’m not sure if it’s the pronounced malt flavor or the balanced bitterness, but I feel it’s one of the newer beers I enjoy drinking the most. It has a golden-amber color and a generous, creamy white head.
Simply delicious
Esta cerveza me ha gustado desde que salió al mercado. No estoy segura de si es su marcado sabor a malta o su amargor equilibrado, pero siento que es una de las cervezas nuevas que más disfruto beber. Presenta un color dorado ámbar y una espuma blanca, cremosa y abundante. Simplemente deliciosa.
I was reading an article recently about Venezuelan beer, which claimed that the country's best beer—in terms of quality—was Solera Verde. This premium product from Polar has the highest alcohol content in the country (6%) and is one of the most bitter, yet it doesn't sell as well as the others. The article concluded that Venezuelans generally don't consume "fine" beer, preferring instead the brands that are most widely sold and distributed.
Hace poco leía un artículo sobre la cerveza venezolana que afirmaba que la mejor cerveza del país —en términos de calidad— era la Solera Verde. Este producto premium de Polar tiene el mayor contenido de alcohol del país (6 %) y es una de las más amargas; sin embargo, no se vende tanto como las otras. El artículo concluía que, por lo general, los venezolanos no consumen cerveza "fina", sino que prefieren las marcas de mayor venta y distribución.
However, I think that, in general, we like beers that are smooth, refreshing, and light, with a flavor that isn't too bitter. Perhaps that’s why... In just a few months, Morena has become a beer that people enjoy drinking day or night—at a party or at home, just as I did yesterday.
No obstante, creo que, en general, nos gustan las cervezas suaves, refrescantes y ligeras, con un sabor que no sea demasiado amargo. Quizás por eso... En solo unos meses, Morena se ha convertido en una cerveza que la gente disfruta beber tanto de día como de noche, ya sea en una fiesta o en casa, tal como hice yo ayer.
